Okay, I have an ONKYO 605 and a ps3 hooked up through HDMI.
I choose HDMI, then automatic settings. And I choose internal decode (not bitstream) I have a 5.1 setup and yet it chooses 2.1 PCM for me. So, I went back and chose manual. Which audio zones should I choose? I chose Linear PCM 5.1 Ch 192 kHz, 96 kHz, 48 kHz... Then it tells me it could damage my speakers... Is this an okay setting??? I have Polk CSi5 center, R300 fronts, M10 surrounds, and the PSW10... not the greatest set-up, but it sounds nice. Any help would be great. Thanks. |

EDIT: I didn't see quite what you were asking. You want linear PCM, but I'm pretty sure your speakers can handle that stuff. My speakers are god-awful and anything that can be checked is checked and it brought up that message, but I haven't had any problems at all with terrible speakers.

I responded in the "audio and PS3 thread" but in case you missed it...
The same thing occurs with my setup. That warning pops up because not every receiver can handle all the sound options the PS3 provides. That is when speakers can get damaged. The Onkyo 605 can handle everything the PS3 can throw at it so no worries there. I had to manually check everything on mine too. No worries and only a minor hassle. If you only have 5.1, don't check the 7.1 settings, all else should be checked as ok. The warning will pop up, but it doesn't apply to your setup! Enjoy |

so Slec, when you go back to check your sound settings, what do they show?
Mine still show PCM 2.1 even after I set them to manual and everything but 7.1... What does that mean? |

yeah, well before I selected the manual "everything but 7.1" checklist (because i don't have 7.1), when I pressed select during a blu-ray it would tell me I was getting whatever lossless sound. I would still hear it from all of my speakers. It's just weird. I wonder what was happening before....

I think it shows everything I checked... I'll take a look Monday afternoon when I'm back in front of my PS3... In the mean-time, I'm sure you'll find someone who can take a gander and let you know! I don't think you have any need to worry
