Default DTS Bomb ON The Orphanage.

I have had no trouble with the infamous DTS Bombs until AVPR was released and now The Orphanage. It wasn't quite as loud as the AVPR incident, but is still loud and disturbing to live with.

I have scores of DTS encoded BDs, but what is happening all of a sudden that seems to be making this a more recent problem with disks as compared to in the past?

Not sure what to do here...

When does the pop occur on The Orphanage? Planning on watching it tonight so I'm curious. I double-checked AVP:R at 12:30 and I definitely am not getting that particular pop, so maybe I'll be safe from this one too.

You need to do a firmware upgrade on your receiver to solve the problem

there is a dsp update for receivers that takes care of this bomb issue. dts apparently inplemented a fix for future releases but maybe these slipped by since this was very recent.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=46176

this is if you registered your onk product because they require email and serial #. then it downloads the update and directions to your pc.

Can't get the Orphanage up in Canada yet... however, I do know that AVPR's LFE level is way too high. There are some films like Blade3 and the extended cuts of the LOR trilogy that have the LFE over-modulating BIG time. The effect on smaller subwoofers, is that the woofers will 'fart' or pop. Here's what to do in that instance...

Set your LFE on the receiver at -10 or at the lowest setting but set your Subwoofer level on the same receiver, at the highest. Take a typical good bass film and set the levels on your actual subwoofer using that soundtrack. If you have movies with weak LFE, you simply raise the LFE level with the remote but when you have over the top LFE like in the beginning scenes of AVPR, go into the receiver's menu system and simply lower the subwoofer level by 75 or 80%. It'll level off MUCH better. Then simply place a note inside the clamshell to remind yourself to adjust the level for the next time you watch the film. Unfortunately, not all LFE levels are the same and some discs are just putting out WAY too high a level.

no problem. keep in mind that avs forums have an extensive owners thread for receivers. i know they have one for mine and sure they have one for yours. they can tell you how to check your dsp version by using the buttons on the front of the unit and even display temp.

What's the URL over there, mate? I wouldn't mind keeping an eye out for information on my own receiver.

Ok I've seen a few things on there and from what I see is to update your receiver you can download the update on your computer and download it to a disc. How does the disc update the receiver. I'm a little confused.

part of the download is the instructions on how to apply the update. you burn it to a cdr then play it over an optical cable to your receiver. the button combinations it tells you to press gets it ready to accept the update.

Oh. I assume I get it from the companies web-site? Mine is a HK 247. Don't know if it needs an update. I've always heard of updating your receiver and T.V but didn't know how. The T.V updating situation is a different subject I guess.

So does that mean that the DTS bombs are soon to be a glitch of the past?
