Default Ubisoft Breaks Down Game Sales By Platform — PS3 Rises And Wii Drops

the install base argument against the playstation 3 for publishers to put exclusives on other platforms instead of the Playstation 3, i guess when it comes to Ubisoft thats not the case at all...Ubisoft

Which video game consoles do the people running a giant publisher like Ubisoft like the most?

Possibly the ones on which they can sell the most games.

Yesterday, as part of a sales announcement , the “Assassin’s Creed” and “Rainbow Six” publisher released statistics that show just which consoles help move the most games.

Ubisoft didn’t disclose raw sales figures but did reveal the percentage of the company’s game sales on each platform.

Lessons learned: Given that the PlayStation 3 accounted for 20% of the company’s sales last year, it’s clearly a meaningful machine to Ubisoft. But maybe not as much as the Xbox 360 and the DS, which contributed 26% each.

And what did the Wii do for Ubisoft last year?

You don’t want to know.

Still, you just might learn something about how well Ubisoft is or isn’t capitalizing off your favorite consoles. The numbers are below…

Breakdown of Ubisoft Sales By Platform

NOTE: The years below are Ubisoft’s fiscal years, which run from April through the end of the following March. So 2006/2007 ran from April 1, 2006 until March 31, 2007. And 2007/2008 ran from April 1, 2007 until March 31, 2008.

Nintendo DS
2006/2007 - Q4: 20% // Full Fiscal Year: 11%
2007/2008 - Q4: 27% // Full Fiscal Year: 26%

Game Boy Advance
2006/2007 - Q4: 3% // Full Fiscal Year: 5%
2007/2008 - Q4: 1% // Full Fiscal Year: 1%

GameCube
2006/2007 - Q4: 1% // Full Fiscal Year: 1%
2007/2008 - Q4: 0% // Full Fiscal Year: 0%

PC
2006/2007 - Q4: 10% // Full Fiscal Year: 16%
2007/2008 - Q4: 4% // Full Fiscal Year: 7%

PlayStation 2
2006/2007 - Q4: 15% // Full Fiscal Year: 16%
2007/2008 - Q4: 2% // Full Fiscal Year: 5%

PlayStation 3
2006/2007 - Q4: 5% // Full Fiscal Year: 2% (System not released until 11/06)
2007/2008 - Q4: 23% // Full Fiscal Year: 20%

PSP
2006/2007 - Q4: 4% // Full Fiscal Year: 5%
2007/2008 - Q4: 2% // Full Fiscal Year: 4%

Wii
2006/2007 - Q4: 14% // Full Fiscal Year: 14% (System not released until 11/06)
2007/2008 - Q4: 9% // Full Fiscal Year: 10%

Xbox
2006/2007 - Q4: 0% // Full Fiscal Year: 1%
2007/2008 - Q4: 0% // Full Fiscal Year: 0%

Xbox 360
2006/2007 - Q4: 29% // Full Fiscal Year: 28%
2007/2008 - Q4: 33% // Full Fiscal Year: 26%

Note that, across the board, Ubisoft’s sales were up, from $964 million to $1.32 billion.
Also, factor in the release of specific games as you interpret the numbers. Last year had “Assassin’s Creed.” The previous did not. Two fiscal years ago, Ubisoft had the hit “Red Steel” on the Wii. Last year it didn’t have anything that big.
