Default PS3 Sales Beat out by XBOX and Wii

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,243300,00.html

I am sure the HD-DVD fanboys will make much of this article, but is it really that surprising? Are there really that many games out for PS3 that make you have to get one? I would be curious to see PS3 sales after some exclusive hits like MSG4 and FFXIII come out. I seem to remember that FFVII was what convinced me to get a PS1. I must say that without the Blu-ray player I would not have gotten a PS3 until FFXIII had come out. Anyway you look at it, almost 500k blu-ray players were sold in December alone. Didn't Toshiba say they had only sold 175k HD-DVD players?

Even Sony knew, simply because of prices if nothing else, that the PS3 was, and is going to be outsold by the cheaper consoles for quite some time.

The PS2 will continue subsidise the PS3 for at least another year while Sony work on getting the costs down, Kaz Hirai has said Sony will make a 5% margin on the PS3 by Jan 2008. So as long as the PS2 continues to sell as well as it is now, I doubt Sony will worry about it.

We will see a price drop for the PS3 on Black Friday in America, I am going to guess of about $50-70 and they will discontinue the 20GB version as that one loses more money than the 60GB version.

Default The winner: PS/2

Wii Beats PlayStation 3 in Sales, but Xbox 360 Beats Them Both

... but the PS/2 rules them all.

I can't see how only 1.1 million Xbox 360 sold in December. That's absolutely TERRIBLE for a second Xmas with mass availability it had.

That's only 1.6 million through the entire holiday season?!

And the PS/2 sold 1.4 million. With the PS/3 selling 500K. Geez!

Edit: For Dec. The holiday numbers were 2.064 million and 664K respectively.

In a couple years they will start selling very well due to the technology and price cuts.

Brand new $500/600 platform outsold by a $400 year-old competitor with a buildup of quality titles and a $250 competitor with vast potential for new gameplay styles? Sounds about right to me.

Sony platforms never gain considerable game libraries as quickly as their competitors', so its likely that the PS3 will continue to be outsold until the many third-parties hard at work at quality games can get their titles out there. The next few months will see games like Virtua Fighter 5, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma, with titles like Warhawk, Hot Shots Golf 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Devil May Cry 4 and Final Fantasy XIII coming later this year and early next year. Software is most important to any platform, and the PS3 certainly won't be lacking in quality software soon.

And, the PS/3 was in severe short supply, and remains constrained (at least every place that gets them is sold out fairly quickly).

The bashers complain that Sony can't make enough. And then they complain about poor sales. Morons!

You have that backwards...the xbox360 outsold both wii and PS3. But I think what stimulated xbox sales were all the price drops on the xbox 360 and the lack of supply for the other 2 consoles. Amazon offer the first 1000 consoles of the xbox 360 at only$100. That's less than the PS2 and the original xbox. I also saw an offer of a $100 gift card with the purchase of a 360 at Best Buy, that's just like a $100 off the console. Plus it was X-mas, people were desparate for any gift.

this BB store I go to and for like a whole month you see a crates and crates of xbox 360 hardly moving. Then like in the last couple of days before x-mas you start to notice them being sold. I think people were waiting for something other and end up having to buy the 360 as a last minute resort.
