Default need advice on pc blu ray in this thread

Hi, I have kept pretty much abreast of blu ray since it was first mentioned.

Now I am ready to make the plunge and the first area of interest is the data storage part.

I remember when the +dvd format came out, the first drives weren't this and that and did not mature to their full potential AND reliability till the 3rd or 4th generation drive.

Is this going to be the same with blu ray disk drives? I would obviously not buy a first generation because for example the pioneer one would not do dual layer.
So my question now is what generation drives are we at with blu ray and are they at the point that they are mature, and RELIABLE(a must for data storage) and ready to everyday use as is a dvd burner? If not how many more generation drives will it be? If it is can you guys recommend blu ray computer burners that are really good, dependable, ready for everyday use and wont continuously burn coasters? I know there aren't a lot out there, but which ones would you, if they are ready, put at the top of the list in say the high dollar category and then which in the affordable category? would be nice to burn dvd's, DL dvd's and cd's as well. and DL BD's as well

One other question comes to mind speaking of these drives...does anyone knoe if a blu ray data disk, once burned and filled with data, is it readable only by a blu ray drive or can any cd or dvd drive read the data from it?

thanks all...t
