Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums, but I think I have a decent grasp on television technology, however I have the kdl-40v3000 and I was wondering what people's professional calibrations are. I am hoping that this can help improve the picture for me. I have a ps3 and have been watching blu ray movies on this for about a week now and I have noticed that there is judder but that really doesn't bother me, however the blurring does. I have noticed that at times it's not noticeable and at other times it's very noticeable (mostly on TV shows on FOX especially). Keep in mind that the blur is minimal in blu ray movies. Thanks!

Motion blur is a part of LCD, and thats just how it is. You can't really do anything to get rid of it. It is not as noticable with hi-def sources but is still a problem. The worst is when something moves from black to white rapidly, it leaves a "ghosting" trail. Unlike plasma or tube tv's, LCD has a pixel response time - the time it takes to acutally respond and change color in order to disply a moving object. I have the 46" version of your tv and the motion blur is its only weak point.

Yeah, I have noticed it at times but it's not huge. Have you had your tv calibrated professionally at all?
And if so, would you mind posting the settings? Thanks man. |

Also, I was wondering if there is any way to adjust your refresh rate.

There's a sub-forum above the main threads that has a bunch of stickies for each television manufacturer for shared custom settings. Check there to see if anyone has posted under SONY for your specific model

Hey MacDaddy, I was wondering what you thought of the blur, initially it was kinda bad, but I turned off all of the noise reducing options and it cleared up a lot. Of course there will always be some as this is an LCD, but I think it's barely noticeable on good HD channels and blu ray movies. What do you think?

I just bought Pirates of the Caribbean 2 recently and was watching it on my 40v3000. I did mention that motion blur has been noticed in the past, but using the professional calibrations that I saw on this site I have significantly reduced the blurring and the movie looks amazing on this tv. It really does have a great picture with rich deep colors.

I agree with you Lain, after calibrating my tv I have noticed a significant decrease in blurring, however since it is an LCD there will be minimal blurring. I have noticed that the quality of signal plays a large part in the blurring that occurs. In response to tek101, I play a lot of video games, so I figured that an LCD was a smarter choice for myself. ( I know that people say the new plasmas don't have burn in, but that is just wrong. Plasmas will always be more prone to burn in than plasmas).
