Default Scratched Blu-ray

Just curious, but I heard that if you scratch the hell out of a blu-ray disc it's still playable is that true?

Ever see what happens to a CD when you put it in the microwave "Shiney Side Up" ??? Try it (only 5 secs) with an AOL etc. cd they send in the mail.... it's not the best thing for your microwave though, so save the "warnings" I already know!!!

Wonder what happens to a Blu-Ray in the microwave??? I might try to find out with my House of Flying Daggers turd......

It has a protective coating that helps quite a bit. There's also a video that shows a disc still being playable after being put through a torture test, not that I recommend trying that sort of thing.

Not all blu-ray coatings are the same... at least not when it comes to games.

This is a disc I purchased off of E-bay some time ago. Note that it is scratched to all heck. A pawn shop actually had the nerve to sell this in this condition. Had I noticed it was a pawn shop selling when I made my bid, I never would have bid on it in the first place. The seller did offer my money back.

The game was "Fight Night" for the PS3. I bought it just before my PS3, so I didn't have a chance to see if it worked.

That's terrible... eBay can be awful when it comes to that, although checking their feedback percentage really helps.

So, was the game actually playable, or did it crap out on you? If it doesn't work would a Disc Doctor repair it okay?

Well, I'm just wondering cause my little brother likes to put his fingers on the wrong side, and every DVD I have skips at some point in the movie.

on a blu-ray disc it may show fingerprints easily but when it comes to to that coating on the disc there is a good chance you wont have to worry about 85% maybe even 90% of the time

A couple of friends went with blu-ray because their kids usually scratch the DVDs enough that they don't work. So far they've been pleased with blu-ray (thankfully, since I convinced them it should help). Just after going with blu-ray, one of them mentioned having to wipe down a disc though b/c one of their kids apparently left some sort of smudge on it (looked like they picked it up with sticky fingers). After wiping off whatever caused the smudge, it worked fine though.
