Default Updating signatures with current purchases, etc.

I went to Best Buy yesterday, and on the way home, I wondered, how many people run home and hop on here and change their signature the instant they can? How important is it to keep the number of Blu's current and what the latest movie you bought?

Personally, I think it's 'attention whorish' to do that. I have no issue with people posting it in a thread devoted to that, so that it generates discusison on how the film is or if the disc is worth buying.

But 'showing off' your collection or equipment in a signature? I just don't get it.

Exactly!!, I have sigs turned off so I dont have to see that annoying crap.
To turn them off just got to the user CP and click edit options on left side, in that window, the third box down labeled Thread Display Options uncheck show signatures and Save Changes at the bottom of page.

Well, you could be cool like me and get an iPhone so you can update your sig whenever you want.

How is it show-offish to show your collection/setup in your sig?!

While I'm sure that people DO use it to 'show off' their equipment or whatever, it's never been that to me --

I just figured since we're all enthusiasts, on a site that deals with things like players, receivers and BDs, that it's cool to simply 'share' what we all have. I often read signatures to see what other people are running out of curiosity. Even if they are bragging about it, I rarely read it that way. And I'm honestly interested in what other's have, even the ones who own things I'll never be able to even dream of owning.

Each to their own, I suppose.

Exactly . . . I get pm's from people all the time with questions about my receiver, tv, etc, who need opinions, help, whatever. Same goes for cataloging movies (although I don't list them directly in my sig). If I see somebody has a disc in their collection that I'm trying to research, I'll ask. So, to me, it's more for networking.

I do have to admit, I'm compulsive about adding my new stuff to DVD Spot and Delicious Library, which doesn't have anything to do with status, I just honestly have a fascination with cataloging, and get unnaturally worried if I don't have things in their place. Maybe a touch of OCD, who knows.

I AM OCD, so that might explain things. I'm totally about the cataloging as well. I keep my copy of DVD Profiler as tight as I can, and it's drives me nuts when they're database doesn't have info on some of my discs.

It's very important to me to update every purchase as soon as I can. I usually do it from my iphone while I'm paying at the register.

I use to do it to keep track of what I already had, and also to represent my personal tastes and interest.

I finally realized that very quickly it would not fit in the 8 lines any more and removed the whole thing, but it did help explain why I think some of the things I think.

An example if say another gundam game came out and I made a comment that I like it, someone could see that I own all other gundam games on the console including ones that many would consider not to admit. Which tells them my that I am a Gundam fanboy and that my opinion was a strew of what they consider normal.

That's was a big reason, also, imagine if you see a list of lots of fps and no rpgs then it may be safe to say the person likes fps, or if there are only specific fps, it helps speak of a persons interest when you do not have the time to strew for there personal likes and dislikes which helps shape there opinion.

I leave you with that.
