Default 80GB MGS4 PS3 Set for Release June 26 in Canada

The Piano Black 80GB MGS4 PS3 bundle (not the Gun Metal Special Edition) is now on the official Sony Canada website for pre-order:

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...ductId=1005269

And on the main page, a direct link is posted to it stating that the 80 GB PS3 is Back!

http://www.sonystyle.ca/

Good ridance, the 40GB is an awful deal. For $100 more you get 4 USB ports instead of 2, Memory Card readers, PS2 backwards compatiblity and better PSone backwards compatability, SACD support, a Dualshock 3 controller instead of a Sixaxis, and MGS4. The 40GB doesn't even come with the free copy of Spiderman 3 in the box anymore. And oh yeah, double the hard disk space.

But does anyone know if the new MGS4 80GB uses the new 65nm procesors like the 40GB, or is it the same old processor as the Motorstorm 80GB and 60GB PS3? I'm hoping its the new cooler processors becuase it just doesn't make sense for Sony to be making two different types of processors, but I haven't been able to confirm it anywhere. If it does, than it wipes out the 40GB only advantage, which is it runs quieter and cooler. And also if it does, I think the MGS4 80GB overthrows the 60GB as the best PS3 made, since it has all its features except slightly reduced PS2 BC, but runs cooler, quieter and uses less energy and has the improved Bluetooth antenna. Oh yeah, and has more stock hard disk space.

PLEASE NOTE! THIS IS NOT THE LIMITED EDITION GUNMETAL PS3!!!

It is still a good deal though. But, from the thread title I thought that you were talking about the Limited Edition MGS4 Gunmetal Edition. The Gunmetal PS3 is only going to be available for minutes wherever it becomes available for pre-order.

I editied my original post to clarify I am not refering to the Gun Metal Special Edition. That said, in my opinion the Gun Metal one is a POS cause it is a 40GB. If it was an 80GB I would be all over it, but come on, way to ruin the special ediition by using the neutered model instead of the full featured one. The Piano Black 80GB MGS4 PS3 is a SWEET deal. The gun metal one is a lame deal. Why would anyone pay more for the crappy 40GB? Why would Sony do such a boneheaded move and furnish the 40GB hardware with the beautiful casing instead of the 80GB?

I guess they are allocating shipments first to the US to ensure you guys have enough, which means we get the short end of the stick and have to wait a couple more weeks I guess till June 26th.

I doubt it because it just doesn't make (much) sense for Sony to be making two types of 80GB consoles. And if they did, we'd surely see it unbundled as well.

Still no PS3 80GB at FS/BB Went there yesterday and nothing. Now that I finally decided to get a PS3 to play Blu-rays I have to wait

It's been reported that it's most likely the older processor boards from the power rating noted on the specs.

If this is true, then we'll have a new batch of people posting about the loud fan(going into high gear due to power consumption) and enormous heat output issues.

Quote:
BD30: player uses 25W energy while playing a Blu Ray disc.

PS3 40go: Consumes 135W of energy while playing a Blu Ray disc
PS3 60&80go: Consumes 180W of energy while playing a Blu Ray disc

PS3 max power consumption:
-------------------------------
40GB - 280W
60GB & 80GB - 380W

It was launched yesterday here in Canada along with the U.S. If you went there and saw nothing, it's cause they are sold out!

I've got 2 FS stores within a short drive of me and they're in stock at both locations.

Well damn, just my luck

Where are you located?

Why would these sell out anyways? Are there still that many people without a PS3??

I'm in Kitchener ON; just west of Toronto.
I guess they sold out cause it really is a good deal when you think of it.

Great entry point for people who were on the PS3 fence!

Well, I had no such luck. So I just bought a PS3 40GB along with Heavenly Sword and Jumper.

80GB might be better value...but I don't think I'll need the extra features...except for hd space :/

So now I'm a happy PS3 owner

Congratulations and for Hard Disk space you can upgraded to 250 GB in future.
