I think that the Sony SXRDs are the best bet out there currently.

However I would take the DILA over the DLP since I am very sensitive to colour separation artifacts (rainbows) that all DLP TVs currently display.

Don't know what your budget is, but you would be better served buying one of the new Sony SXRD's or A2000 models which accept 1080p and in my opinion, have the best image quality out of the current DLP/LCOS rear-projection models that are out there.

What i would do is go to AVS with the model #s of both TV's and find threads about them. If they are both great, then get the JVC since bigger = better.

Whe doing my research before buying my SXRD I found that the JVC does 1080P but it wouldn't except the signal via hdmi, unless they made a mistake on that web page.Could have saved around $400 on the 56 in,but then again I would still always be wanting the Sony.Whats $400 in the grand scheme of life

A friend of mine bought that exact Samsung and really likes it; I've see it and it looks just as good as my 65" Mitsubishi DLP.

Check out avreview.co.uk.

Sony bravia x range of screens are the buisness, my av installer told me that Samsung manufacture the screens for Sony.
If its LCD, Sony are knocking out the very best at the moment.
If its a plama screen you fancy, look no further than Pioneer, yes they are expensive but the PQ is awesome and they win awards every year without fail.

Read reviews and get advice and you will get the very best for your budget.

Hey Dipset420,

A year or two ago I would have said to get a Sony SXRD since no other set could come close to its picture quality performance. JVC makes good LCOS sets just like Sony. DLP a year ago had poor performance over LCOS. Now some DLP sets have better performance then LCOS sets.
If you pick up an issue of the February 2007 Home Theater magazine they have an excellent face off of 6 1080P rear projector sets The Samsung, JVC, and Toshiba rear projectors were rated to have slightly better picture quality then the Sony SXRD rear projection. What surprised me is the top rated set was the Samsung HL-S6188W DLP. A DLP set outperformed the Sony SXRD. These sets are getting to be so close in quality it is hard to choose which to purchase.
I would go with the JVC HD56FN97 56 inch that you mentioned. For one thing it has one way QAM with cablecard slot. You can subscribe to premium HDTV programming from your cable company without a cable box with the JVC. If you want onscreen TV guide with Video on demand then rent a cable box since this set will not support that feature. Sony needs to start coming out with better quality SXRD TV’s. Sony was the leader in picture quality on SXRD sets until this year. There is so much competition on performance and price wars with 1080P displays these days. This in some ways is good for the consumer. One final note. In Feb at the earliest JVC plans on coming out with a new line of rear projectors that are thin like Plasma TV’s. You will be able to mount the LCOS on the wall. Then the price wars between rear projectors, Plasma, and LCD will start when companies make the rear projectors thin for wall mounting.
