Default How many more PS3 units will sell just for MGS4?

With the release of MGS4 coming up, how many more units will sell just for MGS4? Please specify between worldwide and certain regions. I have no idea how many more units will sell, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or thoughts om the topic.

For the game I think they will sell 2-2.75m in the first week (US will be around 1/3 of that). Likely in the first month they will sell close to 5 million. I would think its life cycle will be about 10 million.

For PS3 consols...
between 200,000 and 350,000. 40,000-75,000 first week. (Both above the adoption rate that is happening without MGS)

Most who have adopted from PS2 for a game (the fans of MGS MUST have owned a PS2) adopted for GTAIV. I dont think that many are left who would adopt for this game, but a 350,000 kick for a game is not bad, it is great when think about the numbers per week they are selling now... it is like a 50% boost.

I dunno, with R:fom 2 maybe 150,000-600,000 more (people on board with that game already own a PS3 on the low end, Xmas on the high end), with KZ2 maybe 150,000. If it lives up to the hype I bet it moves about 300,000 in its life cycle (a great FPS will move more than a Stealth action I think). Those two are daisy chained to MGS and GTA of course, so it takes into account that some people would adopt for those games and be unable to rebuy a PS3 for MGS/R2/KZ2.

All three games will suffer from having adoption because of other games, so their numbers will be slighted... In other words, I would bet that most people who bought a PS3 for GTA were thinking ahead to these games.

All in all, that is a huge kick for PS3, because that would be above the normal adoption rate by about 1 million units over the next 6-8 months (about 150,000 a month), while the other guy has nothing huge coming in that time.

Again, that is a 50% boost to sales.

This is a very good point regaring the wait for the 80 gig to come back. An 80 GB console bundled with MGS4 will be a great seller. Sugestion for the OP how about a poll?! Maybe asking to predict how many 80 GB MGS4 PS3 consoles will be sold overall in the first week of release?

Yeah, the systems are going to FLY! So many people are waiting for the 80gb system, and even more are eager to play MGS4 and witness the first TRUE next-generation video game.

I think with only the 40 gig being available now the re-introduction of the 80 gig with backwards compatibility and of course not to mention MGS 4 will be huge for the PS3.

I think the fact that there re-releasing the 80g units will have more of an impact on moving systems then MGS4 coming out. I know a fair amount of people waiting for the 80g to be out so they can get one. But having said that I definatly think MGS4 will be a significant system seller and given the fact that its packaged with the 80g units it'll be tough to tell weather people are buying for the game or the better SKU model. MGS series does'nt have nearly as large a fan base as GTA or Halo so it certainly won't cause as big a splash as when those games were recently released. I will definatly be buying tehe game

Yes the fan base isn't as big, but i assure you thats it's bigger now than it was before. and people have to remember past mgs games didn't have this much hype, so i know for a fact that the fanbase has increased alot, i know a bunch of people that will be getting a ps3 cause of mgs4.

Well I did'nt say that MGS4 won't be a system seller , all I'm saying is I don't think It will move systems at the rate a Halo 3 or GTA4 will thats all. I mean in my post I did say: "But having said that I definatly think MGS4 will be a significant system seller" I'm not trying to bash the game or anything its just that MGS does'nt have as large a fan base , I only have 1 friend who likes MGS series and he's pretty much an Xbox fanboy now so I doubt he will even buy a ps3 for 1 game. Shit I might even buy the 80g bundle myself because of the great value it is and an extra Blu-ray player is never a bad thing (except for my wallet)

The NPD didn't show GTA4 as a system mover.

So, if you truly think that MGS4 is less of a system mover than GTA4 is, you are saying that MGS4 won't move consoles at all.

You can't say it'll be a system mover but call it less of one than GTA4, given what happened that's a contradiction.

Actually, no one knows if GTA 4 caused more systems to be moved really. What if without GTA the consoles would have sold far less? How would you know? Just because they sold about the same as the month before, has no relation to the next month, maybe they needed GTA to keep at that level. Or maybe GTA had no effect lol. No one really knows without attach rate of consoles and GTA on the same receipt data.

To be honest, the coming of MGS4 was why I bought a PS3. I was wanting to go Blu, and just got my tax refund, so I figured "why not?" and popped for a 60gb for the PS2 chips. If I hadn't decided to splurge, I would have grabbed the 80gb bundle, the LE copy of the game, and eBayed (or given to a friend) the standard version from the bundle.

I've been waiting for it for a couple of months now (80 GB MGS4 Pack) - I really wish amazon.com would hurry up with the preorder - Already have 39 Blu-Rays so have lots of watching to do next month..

I don't know, they did not seem to sell more than usual with GTA4 so why would it be different with this other game ?

Cause its Exclusive and exclusives make a console more appealing. the gta fanbase got split in two cause it went multiplatform, people who had a ps2 now have a 360 or both. if gta was only on ps3 you would see a big surge in sales( though we have yet to find out what it did for ps3, NPD only counted 5 days of gta4, may is going make it more clear) mgs was never hyped like this, this is the game ps3 owners been waiting for, and this is the hardware everyone's been waiting for. but dont take my word for it, you'll see what happens the week after june 12th and rest of the month.

No game will ever move systems the way Halo does....But Metal Gear will
do a very decent job of making some $$$ for Sony...But i would suspect
most people that like this type of game would of wanted COD4/GTA/ or something before now to buy a PS3

It's been awhile since a Metal Gear game....

Sony should be having more commercials by now....Haven't seen any really
in the NBA playoffs which would be a good place to promote
