Default THIS is what PS3 needs to copy....

http://profile.mygamercard.net/

Seriously...they HAVE to do something like that. Its not only a great way to keep track of things for yourself, but its nice to have it all laid out like that for others to see.

I wish I wish I wish.....

That's a pretty site says a lot but the red ring of death says it all .
Xbox sales drops with PS3 starting to take the lead in sale and games is the only thing that matters.Sony will add such a site soon enough...they've been focusing on building the most dependable future proof gaming system available doing a great job of it..

Sorry, as a PS3 owner I could care less about gamer score or achievement nonsense unless they translate into something meaningful like unlocking bonus content or cheats in the game. Or if somehow they could be converted into currency in order to get free stuff from the Playstation Store or something similar.

If all it is for is bragging rights, then it means nothing to me. I'm too old for that nonsense. To me, it's no different than two guys comparing the size of their penises. Juvenile.

Lol...its not just for bragging rights...which still is a FUN thing to do.... for ME at least it gives organization to what I have done with games. I like to know where Im at in certain games and I like to know if Ive missed things (whether it be pigeons in GTAIV or treasures in Uncharted et al). Those are the things I like about that.

The gamerscore I dont really care...if we get it great if not no big deal. But the fact that these Xbox360 players can look up their stats for every game they have played on a website is just awesome.

I also like the achievements simply for the fact that it gives games replay-ability AND something else to strive for in the game then just beating the main story line.

I can tell you arent a serious gamer. Probably just a casual one who picks up a game here and there and plays it until he gets bored with it. No problem with that either. But there are a TON of people who feel just like myself and what is one of the biggest reasons a lot of Xbox360 users say that Xbox is better? ACHIEVEMENTS AND GAMERSCORE (AND THIS GAMERCARD WITH STATS). People that have both systems for example buy a LOT of games for the Xbox360 INSTEAD of the PS3 BECAUSE of these little things. So obviously it means a lot to a lot of people.

Thats an astounding guess, but if u look at the attachment rate for games for consoles, for most of them, the ps3 wins..

And as an owner of all 3 consoles, if a game is on 2 or 3, I still get it on ps3.

Your guess was what type of gamer he was.

As for those things? If the best thing about a console is that you or others can see your accomplishments then what does that say about the games?

I feel fluff like that allows developers to make weaker games when they can 'suck' you in with rewards instead of the game being the reward.

Good condiments can't make shit anything other then shit with ketchup on it.

I do agree that achievements are important with respect to replay value. There are certain games, Burnout Paradise, for example where the online portion gave the game loads more hours than just the offline portion.

Some of the achievements are silly, like in TMNT on the 360 you have to fall in the sewer 5 times to get an achievement. So long as the achievements are meaningful, I am all for them. The achievements I don't care for are the ones which require two players on the same console. I don't often play with other people so this is a bit of a turn off.

just my $.02

I owned both the consoles. It's been like almost 3 years since I own the 360, and my gamerscore? 2115. I bought most of the multi-console games on the PS3, because that's where my friends are. I don't care about gamerscore and achievements. And if you're such in need for achievements, better get the 360 then

100% achievement if you are still on your first Xbox. That would be a great stat to see on there

Exactly. I said something on a thread a couple of weeks ago about hoping PSN doesn't do a lame Achievements-type thing (which I know about the trophy case...I just hoped they don't do it in the same way), and I got "jumped on" a little. From what I've heard, achievement whoring can kind of get in the way of other players' fun sometimes (and from what I hear EVERYWHERE, Xbox Live is flooded with kids trying to be as racist, juvenile, and otherwise as offensive as possible. And this is the on-line experience you have to PAY FOR!).

I'm not sure what makes one a serious gamer or not, but I own 14 games for my PS3 not including the downloadable ones I've bought from the Playstation Store. Of the 10 of those that have definitive endings, I've only played 4 all the way through: Heavenly Sword, Ratched & Clank Future, Uncharted and Resistance (but only in co-op). Why only those 4? Because of the 10, those 4 were the only ones that had the gameplay and story that held my interest the whole way through.

Maybe you're not a serious gamer since you seem more interested in basically checking off all the stupid checkboxes next to the achievements instead of just enjoying the gaming experience (which is the point of gaming right? To have fun?). I remember in an earlier thread on this subject some guy mentioning that he'll keep playing what he feels is a pretty crappy game just to get the achievements and pad his gamerscore. Does that make him a serious gamer or just stupid (my answer to that question would not be choice A)?

Gameplay and a compelling story have unfortunately taken a backseat to shoving multiplayer into every game. And as someone as mentioned, trying to shove achievements into a game might also lower quality. I have Metal Gear Solid 4 preordered and the rumor that there are 90-minute cut scenes has extremely excited since it seems to almost guarantee that the story hasn't been neglected.

And I believe the main reason people are buying multi-platform releases on the 360 and not a PS3 is because many of their friends have a 360 only and they want to be able to play online together. I guess a few may buy for the 360 because of achievements and gamerscore, but I doubt it's very many at all.

^ Then you havent seen sites like acheive360points.com, which people register and talk in the forums for each game on just about how to get the achievement points, and theres more than a few people there.

I agree, Sony can make the gamecard and trohpies and that's all cool and all, but unlocking some cool stuff for the game or at least for Home, then it'd be worth it, comparing e-penises is stupid.

Good post. I agree with a lot of it however I dont think that JUST BECAUSE achievements and the such are introduce it will make games LESS compelling and have less of a story. Most games are made and THEN achievements are created and coded into it. I highly doubt there are many games (if at all) that started with "Ok lets do these achievements and build the story off of it".

If a game sucks or doesnt have a good story or good gameplay...its simply because the developers made it that way. Its not because achievements were put in.

And I dont JUST want to "check off boxes" when I play games. As I stated its a BONUS and something that makes me WANT to continue to play those games. It also makes me feel like spending $60 on a game is worth it. I finished Uncharted in about 7 hours. But it took me another 4-5 hours to go back and get all the achievements they built in and treasures they hid. It was part of the game and I ENJOYED doing it. Infact I rented the game and liked it so much that I decided I would BUY it to have in my collection AND to get those last 250 Medal Points that you get when you beat the game on Hard and then Crushing.

We can most certainly agree to disagree. But I would think that the majority of gamers that have a PS3 would not be AGAINST getting something like what Xbox has. They might not be ASKING for it like I am here....but they wouldnt be against it like you seem to be.

Its not like someone is forcing you to go and do the achievements or sign up to trac your stuff on a website etc.... if you want to its there for you if you dont then no problem. I just want the OPTION.
