Default The Dark Knight is PG-13; how kid-friendly is it?

O K The Dark Knight is rated PG13. How kid friendly do you think this movie will be and for what age.

I have 2 6 year's old boys at home and they do want to see it along with every other super hero movie out there BUT this movies I will have to see first before I even think about taking them or even letting them seeing it.

What do the other parent's think about this out there.

Also I know the movie isn't out as yet but from the previews do you think it should be rated PG13.

I don't see how this movie is anywhere near being R Rated There aren't any scenes with blood or gore, there's hardly any swearing, there are only like one or two onscreen deaths (that you don't even really see) . . . Let's say Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is on the 'closest to R' side of the spectrum, I would say Batman Begins is on the totally opposite side. The MPAA is one of, if not the most worthless system in the world.

My wife and I are very picky about the films we watch. We have no children, but we try to stay away from any movies that have bad language in them. This movie is "darker". I hope that makes sense. There is no bad language that I recall. I consider bad language anything from he** and above. There are quite a bit of violent scenes and people dying, but not in an overly graphic way. The villan "Scarecrow" might be too scary for a 6 year old. Nightmares might be an issue??..?? It is a great movie, but might be too much for a 6 year old. Also check out imdb.com and type in Batman Begins. There is a parental advisory section that will review language, violence, drugs and drinking, and sexual scenes. That might be a little more in depth.

The thing that bothered me the most about Batman Begins, as far as kids are concerned, is not the language or the violence. It's the scarecrow scenes. They are genuinely scary. I'm certain that both my 8 year old and 6 year old would have nightmares just from seeing those. My personal opinion is that they should be in the 10 + range before seeing this one.

As a parent I saw err on the side of caution. Definitely see it first. You know you're kids. Batman is a character that is going to have some pretty adult things happen in the movie especially if the Joker is involved. Also the Harvey Dent pics we've seen may be pretty jarring.

I guess a question for you would be: Do you want to desensitize your kids at this age? If it was me, I would probably hold off. Maybe 10 - 12 if they seem mature enough to handle it at that age (and watch it at home in their environment together so you can see their reactions). Parenting and entertaining your kids are two very different things IMO.

BTW - Twins huh? must be pretty tough.

I actually did tell them already that it was a grown up movie and they wouldn't be able to see it but I would prefer to see it by myself and then make a call on it judging from the preview's I know it would be off limits to them.

Yep they are twins and its a whole different ball game when its double trouble.

Everyone is different so it really depends on how mature your children are. 6 year’s old boys may be too young, but really only you can truly judge that because you know them better than anyone here. Personally when I was around 6-8 I was watching rating “R” movies like Predator & Aliens, so the Dark Knight wouldn’t be a problem if they were like me. My sister on the other hand was 5 when she watch Batman and had nightmare about the part were Jack Nicholson falls into a vat of toxic waste. So like I said everyone's different.

I would side on caution and watch the movie first, then you can decide if it’s something you think they can handle.

Yes, it's going to be a dark movie but I didn't see anything from the preview that would make the movie rated R.

This doesn't affect me anymore, but on that first viewing of Batman Begins the movie had a real fear element. Fear is a major theme of this movie, its utilization by both Batman and Scarecrow are huge. It's definitely a strong PG-13, it's lacking the technical requirements of an R, but it's an R themed movie. Have you watched the TDK trailers? Think the Joker would scare your kids? Batman Begins isn't that scary, but it was a warmup to TDK.

Batman Begins is not to bad there are a few bad words *** damns are about the worst that it gets though. I would probably not show it to 6 yr olds though maybe 8 yrs.

The Dark Knight is a whole different kettle of fish all together. Apparently The Joker is pretty sadistic. I live in Canada note the name (BC to be exact), we have a different system for rating movies than you do in the US. Batman Begins got a PG in BC from what I hear it would not surprise me if The Dark Knight got a 14A. The Dark Knight got a 14A.

Difference between PG and 14A

PG) Top Gun, Speed, Ironman, Spiderman 1,2,3, The Notebook, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Pirates of the Carribean movies, The Simpsons Movie, Twister, Transformers

14A) Casino Royal, Dare Devil, Enemy of the State, Crimson Tide, The Bourne movies, The Rock.

From what I have seen and heard I would not let 6 yr olds see this movie but don't take my word for it see it yourself, and then if you think it's sutible for them take them.

I probably wouldn't worry about it . . . I was allowed to see this kind of stuff when I was that age. My parents always hammered home the distinction between real and fake, and I never had any problems dealing with anything I saw. I'm probably in the minority, though.

I saw people bringing kids to Wanted... I think Batman is a bit more kid friendly then that.

I think the movie would be ok for kids.
If they like batman...theres fighting and stuff like that but nothing graphic.
If not just take them to see wall e or kung fu panda...maybe even hancock?
Any of those should be kid friendly

I noticed that too. Absolutely THE MOST kids I saw in an R-rated movie was Wanted. I'm talking about 25% of the theater crowd was 8-9-10 year old boys. For a minute, a man lost control of his baby daughter and she was running around the front of the theater.

The only incident I saw before Wanted was some lady bringing her baby so she could see Flags of our Fathers.

COME ON!

Yeah me too my family didn't spend their time blaming entertainment for their inability to be parents. I'd suggest you go see the movie first and then make your judgement.

some of these adults probably dont even feel like they got a choice because the parents want to see the movie, the kids are to young to stay at home by themselves so they bring the kids in anyways just so they can see the movie they want to see and then the kids will probably just react all of the scenes from the movie since they are at that age to do things like that or become obsessed with Angelina Jolie's gun shooting that she does in almost every movie she is in

Hey,

When I saw Batman Begins someone behind me had small kids (maybe 8 or 6) and they were bored, confused, and scared. They cheered when it ended "It's Over!".

If I see TDK in the theaters... I'm hoping small kids won't be there.

This stuff is not the care bears. My oldest kid is 7 and wants to see Star Wars and most of her classmates at school have seen the series but we are waiting till she's maybe 11 or so. I think she will actually like it better at that point.
