Default Need Help With My ps3!!!

i just bought a brand new 60gb ps3 from best buy last night and i hooked it up to my standard tube tv for now until i get a hdtv in about a month.

anyway i hooked the yellow and white wires into my tv and there is a humming sound coming out of the speaker. the sound is like when you dont fully plug in the cable into an outlet. but this does not happen with my 360.

and for the video there are these white lines that keep going up the screen from the bottom to the top. it kind of looks like more of a ray of light that comes out of a flash light more than and white line.

but i want to know if my system id defective or does it just do that on standard tv's because i dont have this problem witt my 360 and ive had that system for over a year now.

and all my cables are hooked up right and fully plugged in so i dont understand what the problem is.

i have an hdtv in my living room but its not 1080p. anyway i was thinking should i go out and buy some hd cables and hook it up to my hdtv to see if this solves the problem.

please help

The XMB is meant to change color based upon the month. Check your time settings if it changed on you, It should be white IIRC.

what i meant about the dashboard is when you 1st turn the system on and you have all the different categories like music video user name etc..

well anyway i think it might be the standard wires because i was just tryin it out before and it was still happening so i turned the system off and put the tv back on the regular channels instead of input and the lines were still going up and down the tv and once i unplugged the cords it stopped. so i am going to try it out at someones house with HD cables.

also can you hook the video up with just an hdmi cable or do i have to you the hdmi cable and the hd video wires with the blue and green???
because i want to know if its the input on the system

You should be able to hook it up via hdmi only for the video, at least that is how i under stand it

This applies to the dash board you were talking about

the XMB/"dashboard" may change color with the month, but it also changes to black at night, and the color during the day.... this month is kind of goldish.

That is why you saw it black last night, and orangish today... I though mine was broke too, until I noticed a corolation with the sun.

DO NOT USE THE HDMI OUTPUT UNLESS YOU HAVE AN HD SET!

Use the cable that came with the set that has a funky rectangular connector at one end, and red, white, and yellow analog outputs (red and white analog sound, and yellow composite video).

Under setup, when you select the yellow analog composite video out, it will default to 480i SD.

Sounds to me like you have the wires mixed. Wrong cable to wrong input.

Call Sony support.

Humming and lines across the set are what happens when the wires are not correct.

Hello dipset420.

If your PS3's display output setting is turned to YCrCb, this problem may happen. Please comfirm it is RGB.

Default White Line

I know of the white line you speak of. I have it too. Like you I curently do not have an HDTV but will be purchasing one soon. I noticed that I have the white floating line during gaming and during videos. It is quite annoying. No idea what is causing it though. Also, went out and purchased Component Video hook ups and still have the line.

try holding down the i/o button for 5 seconds. this will reset the system to sd resolution.

Default Anyone With The PS3

has anyone here that has the ps3 played it in standard video. because i when i do there are white grayish lines going from the bottom of the screen to the top. and i went to gamestop yesterday and this person that worked there said the same thing happened with her system but once she hooked it up to a hdtv with the hdmi cable it went away. so i just want to confirm this because i wont have my hdtv until next month.

so has this happened to anyone???

You already have a thread with this question so all answers should be directed to it. Hopefully with it being redirected across 3 forums, the merge redirect will send any that come up that way.

I recommend that you try using a ground lift adapter for the AC connection. Please accept this as my personal recommendation and not something recommended by Sony as the ground connection is there for shock protection. It sounds like you have a ground loop problem though and this is the most straightforward way to check for that.

Just get a DVI-to-HDMI adapter.
