Default Who should be the next Joker?

I know the rumour is that WB will make Batman 3 without the Joker story arc but if they were to continue it who would you have play him???
Heath Ledger's performance looks like it could be on a par with the great Jack Nicholsons but with the right casting he can be replaced. (007 is a good example, great movies with great actors as Bond. Some better than others)

My pick for the next joker would have to be Joaquin Phoenix, great actor and when he grins he looks a bit like the joker.

hah, from what i've seen ledger would be a hard act to follow... in anycase, i'd rather have them focus more on twoface for 3 than have the joker arc continue.

Hmm...I don't have any ideas right now, but there is a good point that with proper casting, they can integrate other actors into a role. Bond was a good example, and I am hearing that the casting for the upcoming Trek film does a great job of re-casting the original Trek crew, so it can be done.

Whether it SHOULD be done is another matter. And by whom, I don't know. I've seen Jake Gyllanhaal before, might be good, but I don't know if he'll be in the same ballpark as Nicholson and Ledger.

He's in everything these days, but I think Johnny Depp could best pull off the sadistic Joker and be on par with Ledger's Joker. Or possibly Tim Roth, though I'd like to see his performance in the Hulk first.

There are so many things that can be done in the thrid Batman movie depending on what happens in Dark Knight.

The Joker can be recast. They just need to do the same "didn't see that guy playing Joker" type casting again.

Russell Crowe..... Nah, Just kidding. Move on, The Dark Knight focuses on the Joker as best I can tell. Move on to the next villain, Two Face.... I don't think Heath Ledger could be replaced, but if WB does decide to take the Joker into the next film, I'll have to go with Josh Hartnett... I think he favors Heath Ledger the most, just like Maggie and Katie favor....

I would think Hugh Jackman, Ed Norton or Leo DiCaprio would be able to do a good job of the Joker.

I heard that he was planned for the 3rd but of course after Ledger passed, they probably wrote him out or killed him off in TDK.

I'm confused, isn't joker supposed to get killed by Batman in Dark Knight?

Paul Bettany. He was rumored for the role in TDK before Ledger got it. He has the look.
