Default HD-DVD Movie Envy

So what movies does Blu-Ray not have that are killing your collection?

My tops:

Batman Begins
Spartacus
V for Vendetta
The Thing

Overall, it seems that HD-DVD puts out classics, while we get garbage like Click for Blu-Ray. At least this year looks different...

Batman Begins and V For Vendetta will be on Blu-Ray this year. Not really into "classic" titles, so I'm not missing much from Universal. I would like The Thing, though.

Well, Batman Begins and V, but they should both be coming to BD soon as they are Warner titles, and Warner already pledged to catch up with their Blu-ray releases in 2007. Other than that, Serenity from Universal is the only exclusive title I can think of that I would want, but I have it sitting on my HD Tivo right now recorded off of DirecTV HD PPV anyway.

I can only look at Universal and Weinstein titles as those Warner and Paramount titles will all be caught up with.

12 Monkeys
Casino
The Interpreter
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The Breakfast Club
Dazed and Confused
Backdraft
Spy Game
Pitch Black
The Bourne Supremacy
U-571
Apollo 13
Serenity

Those are the titles that are exclusives that I envy. Nowhere near enough to buy into the format I'm afraid.

All of those titles will be on BD sometime in 08, if I had to guess. I can wait. I'll have plenty of Fox, Disney, and oh yeah, every other major studio to keep well occupied in the interim.

It does not kill my High Definition collection.

So,
No. 1
You should not be envy.

No. 2
You should be patience and be happy.

Well, the reason we don't have them (Warner titles) is BDA's fault. They need to get their ass in gear and deliver Java Live, because right now, HD DVD is kicking Blu-ray's ass in terms of interactivity. This is something they need to address fast.

Wrong. BD-J Live has nothing to do with interactivity on the disc. BD-J does, but its hard to think of something worthwhile an HD DVD disc does that Blu-ray can't.

Good choices. Although Spartacus was apparently an awful encoding.

There are a lot from Universal too I want. Universal is truelly screwing the pooch by refusing to sell to us.

Others I want:

Riddick (x2)
Apollo 13
Serenity

I wouldn't be surprised if universal went Blu-ray or neutral by May-June. I would rather get better Blu-ray versions than buy anymore crappy HD-DVDs.

HD-DVD will essentially be dead within 10 months so I see no point in investing in a doomed format.

Anyone who also visits AVSF, here's a poll to participate in:

When do you think Universal will first release content on BDs in Japan?

Amir is waving his finger at me on this. So, be sure to help out with your honest opinion.

I think it would be smart for them to start releasing BDs in the 4th Quarter of '07, just in time for christmas. PS3 is going to be a hot item next christmas, as there will be more games/accessories for it and there will be incentives offered with it as well.

Default Other Universal titles to be envious of...

Man, outside of Casino, Jurrassic Park and Schindler's List...

I really think we're missing out with not having any of the Beethoven movies... and the Slap Shot sequel is a must! I don't know how I can live without Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift knowing that is only on HD-DVD.

Oh well. Cheaper for me to wait for the inevitable which is Universal caving in to Blu-ray. And in the end it will just cost them more money, and they can slap that on to the red ink they've shown for the last couple of years slates of movies. Too bad.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I didn't expect this to happen so soon. I've been so jealous of V FOR VENDETTA! But now it shall be mine....then once Universal caves in and hands over King Kong i will be in HD heaven.

Though I should note this is just icing on the cake kind of stuff. Sony has already made a strong case for themselves in my book...how could I resist SUPERMAN (though its warner bros its still on bluray), SPIDERMAN, AND JAMES BOND?!?!
