A stupid zombie movie? I don't think I've ever seen a 'smart' zombi movie because lets face it, it's stupid by default because it's a zombie movie. LOL!!

![]() 28 days/weeks are pretty much zombie movies. 1)they crave flesh 2)their thought process is nearly identical to those of zombies 3)the virus brings them back from the dead (wasnt seen until 28 weeks) 4)the majority if not all (minus elite thinkers like yourself), if asked, would classify these with the rest of the zombie movies. I say if it looks like a zombie, acts like a zombie, and wants to eat my flesh like a zombie... it's a zombie. |

1)they crave flesh - They didn't eat flesh. They go into a 'Rage' and while that might occasionally involve chewing someone's neck off they didn't consume their victims for nourishment.
The reason we know they aren't zombies is because London's population of "rage" infected died after several months due to lack of nourishment... which is how the sequel starts. 2)their thought process is nearly identical to those of zombies again, infected from a virus which makes them crave violence, not flesh. Zombies have no thought process but to eat the flesh of the living from an instinctual standpoint. 3)the virus brings them back from the dead (wasnt seen until 28 weeks) I am not sure where you're getting that they come back from the dead. That didn't happen in either of the films. 4)the majority if not all (minus elite thinkers like yourself), if asked, would classify these with the rest of the zombie movies. ...doesn't make them right. Even still, it's a little strange to call someone a "retard" just for classifying these films as part of the "zombie" genre. I myself toss the movies into the same group when describing them. They go hand in hand in terms of plotting and themes. On the same front it's also strange to say it's "elitist" to think the creatures in the 28 films aren't zombies. That said, Diary of the Dead was an interesting take on a dried out concept. It offers up some new thoughts on the genre but is easily inferior to the bulk of Romero's other efforts. That's funny. One of the reasons Diary was such a stupid zombie movie was that it tried disgustingly hard to be a smart film. And it failed completely in that regard. It was unbearable.

I debated whether I wanted to actually put any effort into trying to determine for myself what is or isn't a zombie. On one hand, you've got the Romero-induced craze of creatures brought back from the dead who are primarily driven by their craving for human flesh. On another hand, you have the traditional concept of a person being brought back from the dead usually to do the nefarious bidding of his master. On the third hand, you have dictionary.com's definition 2.b that says a zombie is "an eccentric or peculiar person."
If we are to go by Romero, I agree that The Evil Dead films are not zombie movies. They are instead demon movies. If we go by the traditional viewpoint, however, you have a valid argument that they are indeed zombie movies. As for 28 days/weeks later, I just don't remember whether or not the angry ones were killed by the virus and/or assailants and then re-animated or if they were merely transformed. Sorry, my memory isn't all it should be. If they are in fact killed and then brought back, they would not be zombies in the Romero universe. They would be zombies, however, under the traditional idealogy. If they were never killed to begin with, they would be zombies by neither of these definitions. If we all want to get along, 2.b is the definition to use since I think it covers all of our examples thus far. ![]() Last edited by Ex Accountant; 06-02-2008 at 06:19 AM. |
