How do I update my firmware and software on my PS3?

I just got one and someone told me I need to update it on some of the things sony has fixed how do I do that?Also if my TV does 1080i/720p and 420p will the blu ray play in 1080i?In the display settings do I check all the boxes my TV's supports then the rest takes care of itself?Can I get some help here I'm new to this?

To update the PS3 firmware to 1.50 use the System Software update.

From the home menu select the "Setting" and the first item it "System Update" You need to have the PS3 connected to the internet for this to work.

Yes check all the boxes that your TV support and the PS3 should do the rest for you.

THANKS..If I already missed a few updates is that ok?Will this update do them all for me or do I have to do them all one by one?

Once you get 1.5, it will have all the previous updates in it as well.
