Default Ubuntu on PS3?

So I gotta ask to all you PS3 vets, I'd like to throw a copy of Ubuntu on my PS3, has anyone tried it? I've heard mixed reviews about Yellow Dog Linux, and want to get the best OS for my box.. What are your thoughts?

The distributor terra soft released ydl to the public by releasing the isos for free to download...

For the iso you go here (please note this is given freely)
http://mirror.anl.gov/yellowdog/iso/

You will need something to burn the iso with, Terra soft the makers of ydl offered the following site for instructions on how to burn the iso
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

This section explains how to install and do the initial setup
http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/su..._ps3_guide.pdf

And for getting around the os and basic instruction
http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/su.../welcome.shtml

(take note of the blue menu going left to right with the first page being welcome, you can navigate to a specific item of interest.)

Enjoy

I heard a couple stories about YDL not running well, especially in the graphics dept. Like checking the web was in 480i and it was choppy, plus they said no support for windows emulators to play PC games... I'm not really looking to play PC games, just maybe use linux as a Fileserver or use it as a firewall if it YDL can support those kinds of things...

There was an article in popular mechanics magazine about turning your PS3 into a PC using Ubuntu. There is a contest to win a PS3 with a 250 Gig hard drive running Ubuntu linux. There is a guide for installing Ubuntu on your PS3.www.popularmechanics.com/ps3pc2008

480i if you do not put the correct cable to your ps3.. alot of folks have those 3 cables red green and yellow...

The os maker states as a requirement to have a hd tv with a hd cable or its not worth trying...

I believe that 3rd party os's do not have full access to the ps3s resources...

Be honest i would just run snes and nes emulators

interesting... it seemed like the morons who posted the youtube video, knew nothing about Linux whatsoever, and were just doing it to try and be cool. I'm just happy the way Linux has progressed in the past years, if this was Red hat 4. it would be nearly impossible to do this on a PS3 lol... After I get some serious gaming time in, I plan on definitely throwing some distro of Linux on there, be it Ubuntu or otherwise.
