Default Why has Over the Hedge not been announced for blu-ray?

IMO, it was the best computer-animated cartoon of 2006 and it received "rave" reviews from critics and "users" alike so where is it? Thanks.

It's from a neutral studio (Paramount), so who knows?

Yeah, Paramount has been a little slow in releasing titles to HD.

ok, thanks for the quick responses. It hasn't been announced for HD-DVD yet either so I'm not sure what Paramount's doing.

1.85 aspect ratio on HD DVD?

One of the dirty little secrets is that they are having bandwidth issues with HD DVD. 1.85 has 25% more pixels to compress than the 2.35 eye candy that has dominated the reviews for HD DVD.

Considering how successful and plentiful animation has been on BD, you'd think Paramount would be interested in getting Over The Hedge out on that.

^^yeah, especially with Open Season getting superb PQ reviews around the web and Over the Hedge being the widely considered "better movie", I hope they bring it to blu-ray soon.

In terms of story and execution, I think the number 1 animated movie of last year was Flushed Away, which is another Paramount distributed title. Second was Monster House.

Too bad that the Academy voters only nominated three in.

Can I just say how "ok-bad" it looks on my HDTV? Upscaled to 1080p too. It's as though they intentionally made it bad looking on DVD. There's something "weak" looking about it. Anyway, all that can be solved with a blu-Ray release, which still hasn't happened..

I think now that Paramount put out the holy grail that is Shrek, the lesser Dreamworks catalog releases shouldn't be too far off.

+! They probably wanted to get their big releases out first. Yeah - I saw this and I thought it was odd that it wasn't out yet, and would be an excellent Blu-ray considering what Paramount does with some of their Blu-rays.

You could ask the same question about the Open Season movies as well as Flushed Away.

I'd honestly like to believe that they're releasing this later. But recently seeing the "video reels" feature on How To Train Your Dragon blu-ray, they had a clip of the movie during the scene where Ben Fold's 'Heist' plays (even though they labeled it 'Rockin' The Suburbs'...), at the end it says 'Out on DVD!' or something like that, no mention of Blu-Ray despite the HD clip.

I was sooo happy to witness and own that scene of the movie in HD and was expecting at the end to say like "On Blu-Ray [this X date]!" Sigh I wonder when 'cause that clip of the movie looked so RICH on my TV ...

I was completely unaware of this until I saw your post. Thank you. It does look fantastic. Why can't this be on blu-ray?!?

Paramount are hand picking 2 or 3 catalog titles a month it seems. This could be way off.

Got led here by google after I tried to look this catalog up on Blu-ray.com! What the heck! It was a popular movie and a good one too! I saw it on TV in HD so the source came from somewhere....if its on HD DVD that means they can at least port the encode over...bit rate for HD DVD was lower...It can't be that hard to make a blu-ray for this movie! Hell I'll work at the studio and do the video and audio encode on my laptop for free
