Default Question about the new firmware update

Forgive me if this has already been asked.

I dl-ed the new firmware update a couple days ago, but popped in a PS2 game for the first time today. Looks better, but there is some sort of autozoom feature turned on. Its slightly stretched horizontal, but doesnt take up all of the screen, and a bit is cut off from the top and bottom.

Is there some way to turn this off in the XMB?

If I change the 'aspect' on my TV controls, will that mess with the regular PS3 settings for PS3 games and BRDs?

What's the model of your display, and which game are you playing?

Hmm. Are you running component or HDMI?

All of my games play at their correct aspect ratio, so it sounds like it's the display. If it has an auto-aspect control (on my Sony it's called "Auto Wide"), try turning that off. If not, can you list the available aspect ratio options and what resolution you're running from the PS3?

Ok, I just bit the bullet and tried it out. It was doing some sort of Auto Adjust (The TV). Look slike PS2 games arent exactly 4:3. It was stretching them to 'wide', not cutting off the top and bottom like I thought, but it was a bit smaller than 4:3, so I had about 1.5 inch black bars on the side.

I played with the aspect ration button on the tv control, and 4:3 worked fine. The PS3 didnt even mind, and upon quitting the PS2 game, it autodetected and went back to the proper aspect/resolution for the PS3 menus and whatnot.

Thanks for the ideas and help.

(I use HDMI, fwiw)
