Default Is Best Buy a good place to work?

I have heard that you need to work 30 days OR 3 months for the discount of "cost plus 5%" or "cost plus 10%"

Also, does anyone know if they give this deal to interns at corporate?

The discount is the same company wide, 5% above cost. Last I knew it was a 30 day wait unless you get hired on during the holidays, then it's immediate.

I had a lot of fun times there, but the uptight managers we worked under drove me and a lot of my friends crazy and we quit.

If they had one with a Magnolia or whatever it's called, near me... I'd do it during a holiday just to get a 1080p projector, screen, separates, etc... but I'd certainly spend about 6 times what I made during that time.....

I worked there for almost 3 years on the Merch team and later the SWAT team setting up stores while I was finishing school. I got my brother a job there about 10 years ago and he is now sales manager at a large store.

I liked it. I had a good time working the morning merchandising shift, setting up displays, unloading the pallets of new stuff. Setting up new stores was great. No customers, slightly better pay. They'd usually set us up in hotels too.

Thumbs down Never work retail.

Having worked for Radio Shack a few years ago, I would say being the broom guy behind the elephants in the circus is a better job.

My mantra is "NEVER WORK RETAIL." Perhaps I am very jaded, but if you want people experience, work in a theater. You still have your share of problems, but you never worry about someone doing a return on you. Nor a plethora of other pointless BS duties associated only with electronics retail.

Find a retail job that does not deal with customers. That's what I did by working stockroom or merch team. Avoid the sales floor.

I will say that the quality of your managers and leads will greatly impact if working pretty much anywhere is a good job. My leads were decent people most of the time. If nothing else, you will learn to work with all types of people and personalities which can provide a great start to working with people in ANY career. Sometime I think I learned more useful skills by working almost 7 years of retail then I did at school.

I sold computers for 2 + years for Best Buy back in the day (early 90's) and didn't mind it too much. Of course, I worked with some decent people and having a good team is important. The employee discount sometimes ain't what's it's cracked up to be though. On certain items, Best Buy is taking a hit and using the employee discount is worthless.

Best Buy is the BEST place to work. They should call it Best (place to work and) Buy.

Assuming you can't get in at WalMart or K-Mart that is.

Never worked for best buy, but I agree with the mantra of don't work on the sales floor. I used to work at Eckerds (CVS now) as a cashier, and the just nonsense you have to deal with with customers was insane! It seems to be par for course that on the day you just don't want to deal with anybody you get a string of just complete bleepity bleeps.

I learned that lesson the hard way too. I worked at the jewelry counter at Target doing watch repairs back when we were still allowed to fix them. I don't know how many times people brought their watch in because they didn't know how to set the time. Analog and digital.

Merch team was fun because we set the displays. That meant we got to open all the new stuff and hook it up.
