Default Is the JVC 25gb/DVD-9 Combo disc in the blu-ray spec?

It seems that the HD DVD group will be focusing on the combo discs and trying to reduce the price to that of a standard dvd. If they can manage to do that, they may entirely phase out the DVDs for new releases which could pose trouble for Blu-ray from a sales point of view.

Anyways, I was wondering if the JVC combo disc ever get BDA approval and if it's in the Blu-ray spec.

Technically it is possible to make a BLU-RAY dual disc with a DVD version on one side and a BLU-RAY version on the other. So far early adopters are not interested in that feature.
Yes Universal studios could phase out DVD for new releases and make only HD-DVD dual discs and make it $5+ more then a standard DVD. The problem is unless the HD-DVD camp can get Sony pictures, Disney, and Fox to release on HD-DVD then most likely the HD-DVD format will die or coexist if several combo HDTV players are released.

That's what I meant. Same side, not flippers. And that article is 2 years olf. I'm looking for any new info as to whether or not this can be done in the future.

Oh, you mean mass production. They don't want to do it. It is a complicated process and would cost more. They think only a niche crowd is really interested in dual format discs and I agree.

paidgeek has said the production is possible but that no studios have been interested in it yet.

JVC had their hybrid working in 2005.
