Default Movie Rumours

I heard a rumour that the Flags of Our Fathers BD will be AVC encoded. Interesting for a Paramount title.

Perhaps we should have a thread where we can post things about upcoming BDs that cannot be easily confirmed...?

Well this wouldn't be completely unprecedented, as Paramount has always done seperate encodes for BD and HD-DVD.. If you told me Warner was doing an AVC BD I would laugh though because that's not gonna happen for a long time.

Paramount has used AVC before, on HD DVD anyway - U2: Rattle and Hum. If Sony's lab is still doing their BDs, it's not surprising that they have a AVC title coming out too. Sony has several.

Rattle and Hum is Mpeg-4 on HD DVD and Mpeg-2 in BD. I'm switching!

Chad, as your site reviewed both formats (you doing the BD review), have you ever compared both versions on your set up?

I haven't seen the HD DVD myself. AVC was used for Rattle and Hum because it supports greater noise reduction than VC1. MPEG2 allows for the same.
