Default Looking for a short speaker, any advice?

As some of you may have already seen, i am currently looking for a center speaker to my set up. Right now I have a cheap Yamaha speaker that desperately needs an upgrade.
After doing a lot of research, I have found several speakers that are within the $100-150 price range I am looking for. Several of these are Polk Audio.
The one problem is, the speakers I am looking at are all about 7 inches tall and 9 inches deep. Well that is a problem.
The current space I have for the speaker footprint is only 6 inches deep, but i think i can get it up to 8. And on top of that, the height is a bigger problem. I need one that is NO MORE than 6 inches tall.

In short, what I am looking for is a speaker that will fit within a 8" deep X 6" tall space, and within the ~$100-$150 price range.
To help illustrate I have a few pictures of the space.

I can push this back 2 more inches.

Any help or suggestions on a speaker?

personally, an "upgrade" just to fit that small enclosure would not be worth it...looking at speakers in that size range you are looking at having mid-range cones of around 2 1/2".

If youre gonna upgrade, it should be a bigger speaker with bigger cones. Stick to what you have for now.

Do you have a picture showing the entire front of your setup...perhaps a spot to put a speaker above the tv?

i realize its out of your budget, but check out the mythos line from def tech. mythos 3 or 8 are pretty phenomenal.

the mythos 3 will fit your enclosure for sure. the mythos 8 is exactly 6 inches tall. both are about 4 or so inches deep.

these puppies are small, but man do they get loud and do they sound goooooooooooood. check ebay and you can probably nab one for a bit more than your current budget. new, the mythos 2 is 550 i think, the 8 i think is starting to get phased out, but can still find it new for around 700. used though, you can get these at a steal sometimes.

Try PartsExpress. The Pioneer and the Dayton center speakers meet your specifications, but you need to decide for yourself if they offer enough of an improvement over what you already own.

Thanks. Well the stand we got last year for this TV cost around $300 cause it is a real wooden table. We are not looking into getting a new stand, but I am willing to put something under the TV to lift it if I have to, the catch is if the speaker is too deep, it might still not fit.
Thanks for the other suggestions, I will be checking those out just for information despite the price difference.

I am sure I can get something that will fit there, or mock up some kind of arrangement to get the speaker to stay out of the way of the TV, I will just have to work something out depending on which speaker I go with. (Definitely need a new speaker, this one is tiny and cheap).

well i won't build it into the wall but maybe I can move the TV back farther and build a shelf for the speaker... but that would be a last resort thing.
I have been looking around and have not found any good center speakers less than 6 inches tall, most are 6.75 or more.
So I will have to figure out something but the more important things still apply, it gives great sound (for the price), and it doesn't get in the way of the TV,

unless you end up building a new 'stand'/riser so to speak for your center, you may want to pass for a while. its going to be difficult to find an appropriate speaker to meet your needs, especially shorter than 6 inches.

can we take a peek at your front setup by chance? just to get an idea?

if you really are tempted to get one, try craigslist, and hunt for some good ol fashioned 'cambridge soundworks' speakers... they used to be good, before they got bought of by er... creative if im not mistaken.

also may want to hunt down pioneer as mentioned. but it aint gonna match most of your setup.

thus ponders yet another question...
