Default PS3 Portable Hardrive Needed...

I bought a SimpleTech 160GB portable hardrive and my PS3 does not recognize it when I plug it in via USB. Don't know why - guess there is a software issue.

Looking for a 160-250GB range portabale harddrive that I can take with me in a move. Anyone using something out there that they know works?

I have a Western Digital 1GB external drive that works, but it is big an bulky. Want something nice and portable...

All USB hard drives work with the PS3 as long as they're formatted with FAT32. Most portable storage devices are because if they're formatted with NTFS, the file storage format Windows uses, they have to pay a licensing fee to Microsoft.

At least I think so about that last thing.

Not all USB HD work, I had one formatted to FAT32 and would not work...it depends on the electronics in the external case. Some of them just don't wanna work with the PS3.

I have used 5 seperate external drives on my PS3 (I have 2 WD and 1 Acom) and two of my friends have externals they bring over to swap videos with (One has a Seagate and the other has a WD).

The only one that did not was the Acom when it was originally formatted NTFS.

All are currently formatted to FAT-32 and all work...

Thanks for the advice...I think I'll stay with WD since the 1GB external one worked fine.
