Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
I guess it was one of the first sci-fi flicks I saw as a kid that I can remember. It's such a well-made film and it's simply beautiful on blu-ray. As a runner-up, Blade Runner. Because to this day, no modern cgi-laden film can match the atmosphere and photography of blade-runner (I'm not using the correct words to describe this, but i think you get my drift here). It is as stunning today as it was when it was released. Outside of Alien and Legend, I'm not sure Ridley Scott has been able to outdo himself in this regard. |

any cartoon animation shouldn't count!
You can't compare video footage with full pixar animation. |

2001 gets my pick because it is a STUNNING film with STUNNING quality in spite of it being 40 years old! If there is an older sci-fi flick of equal quality, I want to see it. Speaking of Forbidden Planet, we seeing it this year? ![]() |

I gotta go with 2001 here as well. The level of detail brought out by the BD was amazing. I found myself going back several times over certain scenes. Definitely a 5 star disk.

WOW, so mant movies to choose from. I will be a little different in my choices:
1. Man on Fire (Great color pallet, excellent transfer). 2. Youth without Youth (Francis Ford Coppola is the master of choosing beautiful locations. It’s as if the architecture is an additional star in his films. Youth is beautifully filmed and Sony delivered a state of the art BD (PQ)). Last edited by coolmilo; 07-07-2008 at 10:41 PM. |
