Default A good reason to own a Blu-ray Player

If you ever wanted a reason to own a Blu Ray player BBC Planet Earth on Blu Ray has got to be it.

This has to be the most extraordinary footage I have ever seen of planet earth.

From the North to the South pole to video footage from space, from the highest peaks of Mount Everest to the lowest regions of Ethiopia the video footage is astonishing and mind blowingly clear. Every frame could just as well have been a picture for sale on Comstocks image library.

I highly recommend this title for Nature lovers and the curious alike.

There are footage of areas that I and certainly a great deal of us will never be privy to see and yet watching the Blu Ray almost puts you there, you can almost touch the Wild Life.

Wow, can't believe someone voted "not at all". You should have made it public poll so we could ridicule them j/k.

Just as long as they get the BBC version and not the Discovery Channel version. There is a difference.

I have to agree 100% with you Owa, I also don't understand their votes. Luckily the majority of the folks are watching Blu Rays with their eyes open

gamma626 , I can almost say you are being deprived of a full Blu Ray experience if you haven't seen it yet. Really, is worth the time in its weight in gold to watch this Blu Ray.

A lot of Video shops are catching on with Blu Ray and its definitely worth a watch, let me know what you think once you have seen it

I love the series though.
Another highlight for me was the Snow Leopards filmed in Pakistan, the first video footage ever of these elusive creatures. Stunning photography I certainly didn't expect Pakistan to be as breathtakingly beautiful as it was either.

I could not agree more, the series is simply full of Highlights and it really is something that you could watch over and over.

The sad part is as the earth is being stripped from its resources, some of this footage may never be recorded again, another reason for owning the series is at least its preserving the memory of our beautiful planet this way.

Complete BBC Series

US Discovery Channel Version

The most important distinction is that one is encoded in 1080P(BBC), while the other is only 1080i(DC). A close second would be the narration by Richard Attenborough, terrific.

Quote:
This US edition of the series is different in several ways compared to the previously-released BBC edition. Among the changes made by The Discovery Channel for the US broadcast were a re-sequencing of the series' eleven episodes, a new main music theme, and the replacement of David Attenborough's narration with the decidedly less British actress/conservationist Sigourney Weaver. Most controversially, the Discovery Channel version also excised roughly 6- to 7-minutes of material out of each episode to allow for commercial interruptions. The result is a total runtime of approximately 480 minutes for the domestic version of 'Planet Earth,' versus 530 for the unexpurgated BBC edition.

I picked it up @ Walmart a week ago...I haven't had time to finish it I'm still on disk 2. The footage is extroadinary, however, I don't think it was worth $67....it's great for demo material but I may be putting it up for sale/trade when I'm done with it.
