All specs and considerations considered, what would you say is currently the overall best HDTV out there on the market or what would you say will be the best HDTV on the market within the coming months of this year?

Take a look at the Pioneer Elite plasma lines.

If your looking for 1080P Plasma’s to hang on a wall Pioneer Elite and Runco make some of the best Plasma’s. If you have a large room front and rear projectors from Sony or JVC are good also.

P.S.

One day I might place a Sony LCD or Pioneer Plasma on my bedroom wall since the thin size will fit my room.

Runco makes a nice $250,000 front projector with 2048 X 1080 resolution called Signature Cinema SC-1. This is one of the best front projectors on the market. Last time I checked it was around $250,000. Here is information on it.

For less then $5,000 you can get a Sony VPL-VW50 1080P front projector that has better picture quality then any LCD, Plasma, or rear projector on the market. Screen size is between 40 inches to 300 inches. You need a dark dedicated home theater to use the projector is the only catch. If I had a dedicated home theater room this would be the projector I would get since the $250,000 Runco is more then I would be willing to spend especially when the Runco appear to not accept 24HZ signals from 1080P sources. Maybe they will add that later on a future model. $250,000 is what some people pay for a house, this product is for a multimillionaire with a $500,000 to $1,000,000 dollar home theater room. It sure is a nice 3 chip DLP projector.

Since more than 90% of the HDTV sets that would come out this year will have HDMI 1.3, then this won't be a problem.

For Plasma:

Refer to Pioneer 8th Generation of Plasma TV sets.

For LCD:
I suggest you wait for Sony/Samsung to activate their 8G LCD plant. Once there, the TVs should start arriving within H2 of this year.

Or if not, go with the new Sharp Aquos line (8thgen panel)

Forget about LG Philips. They SUCK as the only purpose is for budget.

Syntax or Olevia by Kolin are budget TV sets. The Taiwanese sets have low prices but only average quality (unlike the big guns)

Let's see what else...

Oh yeah. If you are not in a hurry and can wait for a year or so, why not go for OLED TV.

By 1st gen release, it would already have AT LEAST 1,000,000: CR, 120hz refresh rate support as standard and ultra-fast response time of less than 1 ms (or speeds is MICROSECONDS).

Pick OLED over SED. Don't pick SED if Toshiba still runs the "show"

And yeah aside from that, skip projection technology (front and rear)

That's all the advice that I can give you.

True home theater = Projector. Nothing else even comes 2% close to the experience.

Check out CNET's review of the Mitsubishi 65831 DLP. They rate it higher than the SXRD's from Sony and as high as the best plasmas. I have this set and it is absolutely amazing. Can be found for about $3500. Best value hands down IMO.

Is CNET really that reliable for reviews of equipment like that?

I'm not doubting your word that it's an awesome set, but better than the SXRDs? That's a tall order my man.

The Mits is every bit as good as the SXRD's. The Sony was my first choice but I quickly changed my mind after comparing the sets head to head. The Mits is also 5" bigger diagonally and about $1500 less!

I looked at the sammy but the 60" SXRD was where we ended up. Didn't like all the moving parts and the wobulator story with Sammy DLP's. Once I found out that DLP chips are currently only half of the necessary requirements for 1920x1080 (hence the wobulator stuff) the SXRD was sold. The fact it was coming in about $300 bucks cheaper than the sammy over boxing week sales put the sammy in it's grave.

But man does it ever take way too much research to even reach a decision..I wasn't even aware of the wobulator stuff until the last minute..

Very happy with the SXRD - GTHD on the PS3 at 60" and 1080p is %$#$% incredible.

Blackraven! haven't we gone through this before?

Till there is a 150" 2.40 wide OLED, you can't skip front projection technology. Otherwise it's just watching TV

Yeah direct view OLED sounds awesome but I need my widescreen Cinema sized viewing you know. One day one day. Maybe we'll even have curved screen 150" 2.40 wide OLEDS!

Not me. No way.

I want to see what OLED looks like a few years after it's been released though. That'll be something to behold.

Everyone who saw the Sony OLED prototype at CES was blown away. OLED is the future.

It may be, but I still would never buy a first gen display of any kind. I usually never buy first gen anything.

Well, I'm certainly going to want to have an HDTV by February, 2009. I just hope I'll be able to find one that is nice but not an amazingly ridiculous amount of money.
