Default Just to make sure...

I'm getting the Onkyo 606 and now I just want to make sure I got that right.

My equipment is :

Pioneer HDTV for now because unfortunately it has no HDMI.
PS3 80gb
DVD Player to watch my PAL movies. No HDMI either.
Direct TV DVR HD with HDMI.

So:
PS3 to 606 via HDMI and do I also need an Optical?
DVR HD to 606 via HDMI
DVD Player to 606 via Component and Optical
606 to HDTV via Component from the Component Video Out, right?

Am I missing something?

That sounds right, but I'm not sure how good your picture and audio will be since your outputting everything via components. And you'll probably need an optical since your not outputting with HDMI. I just connected my 606 via HDMI and everything looked great. Do you have future plans to get a TV with HDMI connections? The 606 can output audio and video thru HDMI.

Does your Pioneer have DVI inputs? you could go HDMI to DVI from the 606 which would be the best route.

you cannot connect hdmi for video and then output over component, it does not work that way.

you can still connect from the PS3 HDMI for audio, but youll have to run component cables for video all the way.

does your tv have DVI connection?

Actually yes it does.
I will order a HDMI to DVI cable from monoprice.
So I take it it's better than Component, but how better? Can it do 1080p?
And also, do I still need an Optical for the PS3?

Like Crackin said above: Connect your PS3 and DVR via HDMI to the 606 then output HDMI/DVI to the Pioneer. Don't sweat 1080P since your Pioneer is most likely is native 720P. The most you will get out of the PS3 is 1080i and the Pioneer. No need for optical on the PS3 with the above setup.

its all good, try a search of the forums and you will find the answer for 720, 1080 (i)nterlace and (p)rogressive scan. Bottom line: you will be happy with hdmi to dvi instead of the component video setup.

Are you sure your tv has a dvi input? I thought that model only had component, s-video and composite.

OMG!
You're right, that's not a DVI, that's a RGB (what the hell is this for then?)
I better cancel my order fast from monoprice.

And I can use HDMI just for the sound from the PS3 and my HD DVR?

yes, sound from HDMI with the PS3, but for the DVR you will need an optical cable for audio.

Hmmm.
I connected everything.
PS3 -->Receiver via HDMI
DVR -->Receiver via HDMI
DVD -->Receiver via Component
Receiver -->TV via Component to Input 1
And I have no picture, no sound, wtf?
I gotta go to work right now so anyone has any idea what's going on?
When I put the TV to Input 1, nada.
Is there something on the receiver I need to setup?
The only thing that works is my CD player via Optical

Please help!
