Default New Guy Here!

I just got a Viewsonic Cine 1000 and PS3, its a beautiful combo.

What are some general knowledge I should knowabout blu ray?
What audio speakers should I get?
Anyone else use a HD Projector?

Thanks everyone, all opinions welcomed. Take it easy!

General knowledge of blu-ray. New format currently capable of up to 50GB on dual layer discs but 200GB has been achieved. Players capable of outputting at 1080p. Has more studio backing than HD-DVD. What else do you want to know ?

Audio speakers are a matter of taste and depend on your audio setup, disposable cash and room you are in. Question is too broad ?

I'm sure alot of people have projectors. Check out AVSFOrum in the projects section.

Enjoy your new blu-ray movies.

I like this list of Blu-Ray movies in order of picture quality.

For speakers, you cannot beat Aperion for the price. There are better speakers out there that are significantly more expensive, but in Aperion's price range nothing else comes close. Don't take my word for it, they have a free (including shipping both ways) in-home trial.

At the moment the only HD monitor I have is a projector. The Screenplay 5000. It is a low end projector that is standard 720p but can do 1080i. Also contrast is something like 800 to 1 so the blacks can suffer alot at times

Blu-ray picture still looks great on it though!

I'm guessing the Viewsonic Cine 1000 is a projector. How's it like? I'm thinking of upgrading in the next year before my bulb burns out.

Hurry up and get the Cine1000 its $599 at fry's expires today. Well worth every penny.

Viewsonic Cine1000 is 2000 to 1, so very bright, and the res is remarkable, 1920 X 1080; 1081i to 480p supportable. Beautiful!!!

Smile Welcome!

Congratulations on the new setup.

What type of cable do you hook the PS3 to the Viewsonic?

Also, what kind of screen are you using?

Aperion is good, but another direct from manufacturer brand is AXIOM Audio. You can get a nice set for as little as $1200 and they sound great. Although I also prefer the titanium tweeters over Aperion's Silk Dome Tweeters

When I considered my setup, Axiom was at the top of the list, if for no other reason than they offer an insane amount of finish customization.

To my ears, the titanium tweeters sounded a bit harsh. I felt that the Aperions sounded more musical, and I also liked their warm sound. Of course everyone's ears are different (as well as room acoustics), and I think Axiom offers a 30 day free trial as well (though shipping back may not be included). For someone considering new speakers, I'd suggest ordering both and comparing them side-by-side in your house to see which you prefer.
