Ok watched Harold and Kumar 2 last night pretty funny, but got a total of 12 bitstream bombs on my onkyo reciever. Now I have never had this happen before, and it is fairly new onkyo 805 I bought it in April so i know about the firmware update. Anyone else watch it and experience this by bitstreaming the audio to your reciever?

Well, may be you have to check the manufacture date.Might be a old stock so that you might have to do the DSP update.
I bought my 805 in March and still it has the DTSHDMA bomb..I use my ps3 to play the DTSHDMA discs..which is not a permanent solution.I am too lazy to update it ![]() |

The thread I linked showed the corrected DSP numbers, and how to check them. It will literally take you 30 seconds to see what DSP you are running and see if you have the old one.

Just Read this on the Harold and Kumar 2 review....
Audio note: Users bitstreaming DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 to certain newer receivers--Denon, Integra, Onkyo, and Yamaha, among others--for decoding have reported occasional pops during playback. DTS supposedly informed the receiver manufacturers of this issue, and the manufacturers supposedly resolved it in current models, while offering upgrades to older product. In addition, the folks at DTS supposedly have provided studios with instructions on how to reproduce DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio to avoid the problem altogether, but apparently not all studios got the memo. Using an Onkyo 705 receiver, I found this particular disc made a small pop every time I took it out of "Pause." As I have not yet upgraded my receiver at the time of this writing, the work-around I used was to put the receiver in "Mute" for a moment just before returning it from "Pause." Maybe New Line had this BD already completed before they could implement DTS's instructions, I don't know. Just a caution. |

I noticed this while watching it on netflix last night...
The difference was... I was using a PS3 and outputting PCM. There were definite noticeable bursts (repeatable too- ex: [Show spoiler] a "dts bomb" happened there at the same time every time) -- they weren't ridiculously loud, but louder than the rest of the sound.I had never heard it before and I was surprised that even through PCM decoding on PS3 I still heard them. I'm not sure if this is the normal DTS bomb, as it happened when PS3 software decoded the DTSHDMA stream even. Seems like they just flubbed the DTSHDMA encode. |

There may have been reports, but the amp is only capable of so much. I would think, but I am in no way certain, that as long as the amp is not overkill for your speakers then you will probably be ok. I have had no problems with my gear after having a few DTS bombs.

I am watching Harold and Kumar 2 right now and am experiencing the pops as well.
Now, from what I understood, the original "bitstream-bomb" only happened when bitstreaming the DTS-HDMA audio-track to selected receivers, i.e Onkyo for which a DSP update was made available. I only have a PS3, coupled to an Onkyo 805, so I cannot bitstream and only get PCM instead. I never got around in applying the DSP update; but due to PCM also never experienced this issue. In this particular movie however, I AM hearing pops; even though it's PCM and not bitstreamed. So what's up with this? |

I also bought Harold and Kumar 2. I am using the PS3 decoders running PCM to my Onkyo and experienced the popping. Is this something wrong with the Onkyo, the PS3, or the BD itself? I am kind of confused. Also of note the popping stopped for me when I changed the PS3 audio output. I selected HDMI manual settings and unchecked all the 7.1 configurations and viola, the popping ceased. Just thought I would let you all know so you can still use the DTSMA output without risking speaker damage. I never noticed this on Shoot Em Up or any other New Line BD. Let me know if I need to upgrade my firmware on the Onkyo to get it to work properly, as the un-checking of my 7.1 outputs from my PS3 is hopefully just a temporary fix. Thanks!

I grow increasingly disenchanted with DTS-HD MA, though, and it's kind of a bummer that it seems to be rising in popularity. I've had a couple of issues with those, but never a single problem with Dolby TrueHD. |
