Many outlets are reporting that Manny Ramirez was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. None of the reports have information on who the Red Sox would receive in return.
And so ends the era of Manny being Manny in Boston. Such was his legacy that I don't know whether I should cheer or cry. ![]() |

Damn! My internet today has been terrible, missed these last 3 reports, they all came thru Boston Channel at once:
From SI.com's Jon Heyman (4:35 p.m.): The Red Sox traded Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers late Thursday afternoon, SI.com has learned. Jason Bay is headed to Boston as part of the deal, SI.com has learned. The Pirates will get four minor leaguers in the three-way trade. The Red Sox went back-and-forth with the Marlins and Dodgers as the 4 p.m. ET deadline approached. Ramirez said earlier today, as first reported by SI.com, that he would accept a trade to any team. The announcement will be made in conjunction with a World Baseball Classic announcement at Dodger Stadium shortly. From the Globe's Nick Cafardo (4:25 p.m.): "The Red Sox may have landed [Jason] Bay." From the Globe's Gordon Edes (4:20 p.m.): "It's my understanding that a trade has gone down with Manny Ramirez." |

It'll be interesting to see which Jason Bay we'll get, The one with 21 homers last season or the one with 22 homers already this year.
Hopefully he'll be quick to pick up American League pitching and not struggle like JD did last season. Perhaps this will give Craig Hansen a chance to live up to the promise that he had coming into his MLB career. Hopefully the comforts of Pittsburgh will allow him to relax and focus on pitching. |

Sorry but he doesnt have the same stats as Manny this year, and yeah hes 6 years younger but hes not clutch like Manny. And the Red Sox gave up Hansen and Moss + money. Red Sox were screwed

Red Sox might have just cost themselves another World Series Title. I will say though that Manny has been sandbaggin it lately. I saw the highlights from the Angels game where the guy had the no hitter in the bottom of 9th and on Manny's hit he barely even tried to jog to first before being thrown out. It was like he wanted the dude to get the no hitter.

True, not legging it out to first last night, taking himself out of two games the past week, and releasing two controversial and downright silly statements in the past 4 days - nevermind that all this came amidst a sweep from the superior Angels- has made it obvious that Manny wanted out. Get this - they actually had to shell out 7 million just to make this happen. Here take 7 mil and go - not quite as impressive as the 20 million offer to Favre, but still!
Regarding the comparitive stats (this season only): Bay: 111 hits, 22 HR, 64 RBI, .375 OBP, .519 slugging, .282 average ManRam: 109 hits, 20 HR, 68 RBI, .398 OBP, .529 slugging, .299 average I have to consider that Bay's stats come from the National League in a hitter's park, though he was the 2004 rookie of the year. One thing for sure, the Dodgers just gave themselves a chance to win their division (I think they are only 1 game out of 1st) and go to the playoffs. The Red Sox - we'll just have to see how it pans out for them, I'll try to remain optimistic. I'm not going to miss the stupid stuff, just his bat (although that high five into the stands a month or two ago was pretty funny). Last edited by SDon1969; 07-31-2008 at 09:51 PM. |

To be honest Manny has been a little overrated the past couple of years. His bat is in decline from his peak HOF years(reports of him dodging lots of aces this year) and he is an absolute disaster in the field. He really should be a DH but of course the Red Sox already had Ortiz for that. Bay will be a slight upgrade overall considering offense and defense. I'm not sure how Manny will handle the huge outfield in Dodgers stadium but it could quickly get ugly.
