Rage Will Look Worse on X360 - Compression

I guess John Carmack is seeing a little bit of the light with the PS3's Blu ray player as an interview with him he indicates that his new game "Rage" will look worse on the Xbox 360 because it will need to be compressed on 2 discs.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Carmack slam the PS3 either earlier this year on late last year?

Carmack is full of contradictions. He's been so bent on bad mouthing the PS3's architecture and abilities, I wouldn't be surprised if he sabotages the PS3 version of Rage in some way.

Right now, he's just trying to get MS to lower the fees for using a 3rd disc on the X360 version.

Wasn't Carmack. That was Gabe Newell of Valve (who hates the PS3 more than probably any developer).

Carmack's been pretty comfortable with the PS3 actually.

He said the PS3 just had peak performance over the X360. Even that seems to look more and more like an big understatement with games like Killzone 2 barely using more than 4 SPEs.

He is also the same guy that claimed the PS3 development costs can be 5 times more than X360 development. Yet, Insomnaic pushes out a game every year.

Its possible they could work it out with MS and get it on more discs, and then you could just do a HD install, and not have to worry about disc swaps.

This is a ploy im sure to get MS to pay for more discs for the game.

Threaten to make the 360 version worse and they will gladly write a check to even the playing field,.

This is exactly it. He's just talking trash to get M$ to lower his licensing fees. Sounds to me like he wants the game licensed on a 'per IP' basis instead of a 'per disc' basis. Leveraging.

He's still a douche and is showing how utterly out of touch he's become with gaming and technology lately.

Totally agree. He probably knows that M$ doesn't want to see him promoting their biggest rival. But I am hopeful that he, along with other developers start to favor the PS3 when developing their games.

they only do this cause it's way easier to develope on a cpu than the cell....
But once they learn the cell, hopefully that will change..
