Default PCM via analog from PS3

Hello,

I have a denon avr 3806, and want to listen to PCM through analog connection.

My receiver has 7.1 analog in.

HOW do I connect the PS3 to the receiver? Is there a special connector wire with 8 connectors on it? how is this be done?

Does anybody has a picture of this connection being done?

Just want to be ready before March 23 ....

Can't be done.

PCM only happens over HDMI for the PS3. Connect the PS3 via HDMI to your 3806, send another HDMI from the receiver to your display and you're good to go.

More than once, people with AVreceivers withouth HDMI were told to connect through analog to hear (at least) 5.1 PCM signal.

How is this done in combination with PS3?

Can anyone show or explain the HOW TO.

You are right, it is possible, just not with a ps3 because it has no 5.1 analog outputs. The only way to achieve PCM 5.1 is through the HDMI on the ps3, but the 3806 doesnt accept HDMI 1.3, therefore you need a new receiver when the HDMI 1.3 receivers come out. Basically with your setup it can't be achieved unless you buy a stand alond bluray player such as samsung, sony, panasonic or pioneer.

You don't currently need a reciever with v1.3, 1.3 is going to be a video standard no audio, there are recievers on the market currently that will pass decoded multichannel PCM
You can set the PS3 to decode the audio itself, and pass it to the reciever
I know there is the few on the market Denon 2807 and yamaha 1700 and there is also an onkyo and a Marantz

You'll be fine with the 3806 but you will need to use HDMI, there is no multichannel analog audio out on the PS3. Also, you do not need HDMI 1.3 for multichannel PCM audio and 1080p. You only need it if you want your receiver to do the decoding for the new advanced codecs, or to transmit in the new color space. HDMI 1.1 (with HDCP) is all you need. Versions do NOT need to match.

Like JTK says just hook everything up via HDMI. If your TV/monitor does not have HDMI then you may have a problem getting video (not sure on this, but component video out may be disabled if HDMI is enabled) but audio wise you WILL get 5.1 PCM audio.

Even if you do get a HDMI 1.3 amp it is a good idea to let the PS3 do the decoding because anytime there is a menu overlay sound (very common) the PS3 has to send out PCM anyways, so you end up with Bitream out, PCM out, bitsteam out every time there is a beep when nagivating a popup menu. each switch in format induces a 1 second delay to switch formats. If you just let the PS3 decode to PCM everything will be smooth. the PS3/Denon combination is smart enough to correctly set the outputs to the best match in terms of channels/resolution. ie 2 channel/5.1/7.1.

Indeed, my problem is that my projector has no HDMI connection. So component video is the way i have to go until I get a projector with HDMI.

I'll let you know if it works, sound through HDMI and image through Component.

thanks alot.

It should work. You'll set the display/video options in the PS3 for multiAV out component and your audio options over HDMI and it should work perfectly.

It will definitely work.
Denon has HDMI 1.1 so you'll be able to send PCM and TrueHD decoded as PCM (NIN, Legends of Jazz) through HDMI. The DTS will be sent as 1.5 Mbps DTS until the PS3 gets DTS-MA decoding; no word on a timeline for that one.
