Default Studio Canal to support Blu-ray?

http://www.worldinhd.com/movabletype..._canal_la.html

Looks like Studio Canal will begin releasing in both formats. They said they would look into Blu-ray in 2007 and it looks like they are gearing up to not get caught off guard when the PS3 Effect comes to town.

I would presume their releases will not be region coded. The loose translation of the site is as follows.

Quote:
It is next on May 10 which STUDIO CANAL, currently only supporting HD-DVD, will release its successful film, LEND TO ME MT HAND! This edition will be released in HD-DVD but also in Blu-ray, a first from the studio. One awaits more info on future Blu-ray titles from the studio and will keep you informed!

Who cares if it's region coded. It's just further proof that HD-DVD is bleeding like a stuck pig.

I thought you were quoting the Kelly Clarkson song.

So, what can we get out of that? I.e. titles that were HD DVD exclulsive and will be released by SC?

I would imagine that this decision comes from the higher-ups that work in Vivendi SA, in a similar move to Time Warner who told Warner Bros to stop playing politics and get on with it.

Interesting fact, Vivendi SA own 20% of NBC Universal, so there could soon be pressure from within Universal to go neutral.

Looks like Studio Canal has Babel up for pre-order on both Blu-ray and HD DVD.

This is great news. Finally a company that is waking up and smelling the Blu-berries. Looks like they don't want to be caught with their pants down when the PS3 drops in Europe.

Looks like they didn't want to miss out on the party. Just Universal and Weinstein will be the ones outside by the window, looking in.

I'm confused... I thought T2 and Stargate are Studio Canal flicks that have already been released under Lionsgate?

Studio Canal often owns the European distribution rights to a particular film. In the states, T2 is a Lionsgate film, in Europe, its a Studio Canal film. Until now, they have only been releasing their films on MS-DVD in Europe, and now it looks like they are going to embrace BD as well.

What do you think is missing from the translation? The title? would Give Me Your Hand sound better?

The Lions Gate Blu-ray Discs of Total Recall, Terminator 2, and First Blood say Studio Canal on their cover, Stargate says Le Studio Canal +
