Does PS3 increases your electricity bill?? - Blu-ray Forum

I got my PS3 MGS4 bundle last june and usually I use it say like 15 to 20 hours a week in average and I saw my electricity bill for the month of June/July and it is doubled now..I am guessing its coz of PS3?? I know it uses a lot of power..

Also just wondering switching off the ps3 means just turn off the system so that you can see only the RED light on the system right? or Do I have to do something else?

Any thoughts?..Thanks in advance!

You do realize that you think a gaming console is the cause of your electric bill doubling during the summer months, correct?

Guys I mean to say it might be ONE of the reasons.Its not that I am blaming just the ps3.Obviously I am running all my other equipments and the AC.

3 years ago I had 3 regular tube style TV's and a PS2 in my house. I live in AZ and have a 2 story house. My electric bill was already around 200+ every month in the summer and under 90 i the winter. We now have 2 LCD TV', a plasma TV and 2 PS3 and use the audio receiver pretty much everyday. My bill in the summer is over 280 and the winter bill is alwys over 100.

Point is that yes, your PS3 is going to make your bill go up. It may not be the PS3 directly. My roomate has a 40 inch lcd, PS3 and computer in his room. With none of the stuff on, his room is about the same temp as the rest of the house. When it is all on, especially for hours, it is at least 10 degrees hotter. That makes the AC run more.

Also 3 more computers.

I guess Im trying to say that if you add it all up, your bill will increase.

you realize 3 years ago the cost of living was less, right...

crxvtec I see a point in you post..Thanks for the clarification..I know its not just the ps3.It may be one of the reasons..may be you are right.I have a 40inch LCD ps3 and the onkyo 805 all in the same room.so may be that might be an issue.

is this your first rodeo during the summer with paying electric bills??

just so you don't blame your over during the winter... here's a tip: your gas bill will be much higher when its cold out.

I dont quite understand what your saying. You really think the ps3 is making your bills increase like that?

No hes not directing it towards me but adding on to my point of seasonal changes will directly affect his energy bill.

The PS3 is essentially a PC. It uses about the same energy as a desktop pc so it should not be doubling anything unless you use very little electricity. Yes it uses power, yes it will increase your bill a little, yes you have to use your home theater to use your PS3. But your AC will use FAR MORE power than your PS3.
Seriously, relax, the PS3 is doing very little. I leave mine on all the time (running folding at home) and have not seen a drastic increase in my power bill.

well when u use the ps3 ur also using the TV eating up power =P its a lot of variables, plus air conditioning
