Default Over 1080?

There is a new Sony Camcorder Model #DCR-PC330 which is a 3CCD camcorder which states that the video actual is 2048 pixels. Does this mean that this model is capable of higher resolution than the Blue Ray technology currently provides? or is the video pixels measured differently?

Thanks for any info.

Default Yes and No...

High Definition is currently 1920 by 1080 pixels max, and in stills mode the PC330 is a 3.3 mepapixel camera - capable of around 2000 by 1500 pixel output, so yes it is higher resolution than Blu-ray.

In video mode, the PC330 uses the central 2 megapixels of the 3.3 megapixel sensor - probably to support the "SteadyShot" image stabilisation system. ...but even though it might use 2 megapixels to detect the image, the video signal is only saved in either PAL or NTSC format. ...and PAL records 768 by 576 pixels @ 50Hz interlaced whilst NTSC records 640 by 480 pixels @ 60Hz interlaced.

It's good, but it's not that good... :?

Default

Since I'm interested in the video mode mostly, when it says Video Actual of 2048 pixels, is that the true resolution of the camera? or is it the 640 x 480 resolution Blue-Wave talked about?

Again, thanks for any info.

Default Video Actual 2048k = 2 Megapixels

Note that the specification reads Video Actual 2048k (2M) pixels, and Still Actual 3040k (3M) pixels. The imaging device has 3M pixels, and 2M pixels are used to generate the video (the rest are used for electronic image stabilisation). Unfortunately, NTSC can only store a maximum of around 300k pixels (640 by 480) - the first page of features at the Sony website below mentions 530 lines of horizontal resolution under "3.3 Megapixel Advanced HAD CCD Imager" This is achievable in PAL, but NTSC is limited to 480 lines (high definition is around 1000 lines). Note that memory mode can provide 2016 by 1512 pixels (3Mpixel) or 640 by 480 (300kpixel), but not 2Mpixel.

Hope that this helps... Sorry to disappoint you again.
