Angry New recievers to replace old Sony, HELP!

Greetings all,

I am a newbiee to this site and to the audio department. I know basic stuff and then above some to get me by with home audio. Hell, I know more compared to Best Buy employees if that. However, I just bought a Yamaha 663 reciever days ago from Best Buy after doing researching online. I was happy with the features BUT it is a terrible time setting up in my view. The manual itself is over 105 pages and this is suppose to be fun??? LOL. Anyways I am not HAPPY due to the confusing item and want to get something different. I am smart with hooking up computers and audio, but this has me beat. I am come on, why is there an option for how many people are in the room in the audio settings?

Anyways my old reciever is a Sony model. I like Sony based on the user friendly options. I would perfer a unit that is under 800 bucks which can take advantage off the new audio formats such as True HD etc.. I do have a Samsung 50' 720P Tv which I will be upgrading in the near future so that is why I want a decent reciever that will do Full "scaling" not pass through. Any ideas on where to lead me into the direction?

what questions do you have?

if you are stuck on anything just ask...receiver manuals can be difficult to understand.

But that's why your fellow Blu are here to help you.

I given up on the new reciever I have now. Im going to box it up tomorrow and would like to get something else. I am not saying that it has to be a point and click option to make it worthy, but something that is good to understand. Alot of people said on reviews that the manual is hard to get through. I didnt think it would be this way for me, lol.

I am looking for Full HDMI support #1. I have a 720P Tv, but like I said I will replace in the near future. #2 I would like the latest codecs formats such has True HD etc.. #3 a reciever that does if I get this "straight" LCPM decoding vs. Bitstream since I got a PS3 for my blue ray. Anything you think I can use or take advantage I am humble about and will listen.

I am very familiar with the receiver that you bought and thought it was a great buy! I would say that Denon would also be a great choice ( AVR1908) or if you have time to wait, a AVR1909. It may be available some places, but I havent got access to it yet. They both have HDMI 1.3a and the latest HD audio codecs. Send me a message if you want more info. I am a dealer for both Denon and Yamaha.

I just bought a 663 and I didn't notice a setting for how many people. I just used the on screen menu and adjusted distance, speaker level, speaker size, sub phase , cross over, ect. I didn't get into the manual or any detailed ajustments though.

Yeah I had to take back my 663 model at Best Buy and it felt good. Now I just need to narrow another search for a reciever. I do like the reviews of the Denon. But how similar is this for the Yammy?
