Default Concerned about subwoofer being close to HDTV...

On my surround sound package, there was a warning to keep subwoofer at least 2 feet away from TV/Monitor. I have mine about a feet away. Can't go further, that's just how I am stuck with my setup. Will it make any difference? >_>

I think perhaps the warning was for older model CRT televisions and the like - with modern televisions and monitors I don't think this is a big concern.

I would think it is for vibation of your monitor, which sucks. If you don't have that problem, you should be okay.

Most modern speakers are magnetically shielded. Unshielded speakers can distort the picture and the shift the colors. If an unshielded speaker must be placed close to a TV because of room-size or furniture considerations, it is recommended that you put two sheets of solid galvanized steel, cut to size, between the speaker and the TV to block the harmful electro-magnetic fields. Please note that magnetic fields are a major problem for CRT (tube) TVs. However, LCD and Plasma TVs are not affected by them.

The other problem is vibration. Make sure your TV is steady. Use velcro, if necessary. Most places like Home Depot & Lowes sell products to attach your TV to the wall or stand in case of an earthquake. Earthquakes are a major problem where I live.

Well, mine is LCD HDTV (model in sig)... so I guess I'm safe? And this is what I have:

Don't know if thats unshielded.

EDIT - Oh, and the subwoofer itself is on the floor. Fine?

That's the speaker system I own, and I haven't had any problems with my setup. The subwoofer is the only thing you may have potential problems with, but as stated before, even if you have a LCD/Plasma screen close to it, there shouldn't be a problem. The warning is more geared towards CRT.

Anyway, if you already have the subwoofer that close to your screen and you haven't noticed anything askew, I'd say you're good to go.

And yeah, the subwoofer works fine on the floor. It'd better! I'm not putting that behemoth on my desk!
