Default Dell XPS

I was thinking about buying a Dell XPS for the light weight. I can get an alright one for a good price.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change out the HDD on the M1330 with a standard 2.5" or 3.5" HDD?

Also, is this computer crap? I am looking at the 2.4Ghz with 4GB memory

If you're going to portability go do yourself a favor and get the Apple MacBook Air

If you absolutely have to(think you need to) have a Windows machine then yes its an alright computer. Not sure about changing out the HD though.

Dell XPS are very good from what i hear. I know of 4 people that have them are very happy with them. i don't know about changing out the laptop hard drive but i'd be cautious because in the past you couldn't really upgrade too much with dell but i would think you would be able too with their newest products.

As for the macboor air, ya it seems awesome and lightweight but last i checked what was under the "hood" wasn't that great. If he's going for gaming , mac isn't the answer

i don't know about the HDD swap, but the laptop itself is fantastic. i bought a 1330 for the wife about 2 months ago, same exact one your looking at i bet. Very light, tons of features and its a quick little thing as well... She runs data crunching software and GIS on it. Those are some processor hungry programs too!

I am not sure about the laptop version, but we do have 4 XPS desktops at the office and they work great! Better than any Sony, HP or even Alienware.

Their customer service is excellent as well. Had a harddrive crash on me on an older model Dell and they went through all steps of their recovery program, so that I was able to save important data and then did a fresh install of Windows, which all in all took about 3 hrs (and they were on the phone the whole time to ensure everything was working out - cost me only $50 - which was well worth it for the amount of data I was able to recover)

You should definitely be able to switch out the hdd for another 2.5". But why not just pay them to put a bigger one in... it will be covered under the warranty. If you open the machine up as soon as you get it, it might void a lot of parts.

The biggest I can get is the 320GB. That is also the biggest you can buy now anyway. But when the 500 or 1TB comes out, I want it

I have a crappy Dell now with a 3 year everything. I have sent it in 5 times. turn around is about 36 hours, but it is still a PITA.

To be honest I would be to afraid to have 1TB as a single drive.
I've had 250GB and a 500GB die on me, but thankfully I keep full backups of everything now. I don't even want to imagine my reactions if I didn't!

If you sent it in 5 times already and it comes back with the same problem, tell them to give you a new computer already.

Once the screen fell off (the little screws stripped and that was that)
Once the Motherboard went bad
Once the HDD broke (clicking)
Once it would not charge
And once the fan stopped working

I have tried to get a new one, but I guess when you call them and 36 hours later it is back in your hands, it is a good system. I just wish Dell was better quality. Maybe I am too rough
