Default DEADWOOD DVD PQ Question

Hey all, just wanted an opinion from anyone who owns this series on DVD. I purchased it yesterday from Best Buy, - couldn't beat the price and couldn't wait any longer for it to come out on Blu. I've watched the first two episodes and while the opening sequence with horses et al is in great PQ, parts of the episodes appear in not so great PQ and while I understand the director may have intended the picture to be grainy in parts - I just don't recall HBO's hi-def picture looking like this... Am I wrong? I am playing these discs on a new Sony BDP-S350 which is supposed to upconvert to 1080P. Is it me? The PQ just seems like it should be better.....

I watched it using a BDP-S300/301 and thought it looked fantastic. I remember a few "rough" spots, but thought they were more to do with difficult lighting situations.

The show is so great anyway....maybe I didnt notice.

I just watched the first two episodes and I too noticed the intro had significantly better PQ than the episodes. That doesn't detract from the show at all though.

I just watched a few more episodes (discs) and it seems like it was just the first disc with the first two episodes in that the PQ was less than stellar. That show was so awesome... I could probably watch the entire first season straight through the night. Thanks for the replies guys!

I talked to someone at a Deadwood fansite and he told me that it was shot on film originally and he has heard no plans for it to be released on bluray. I love the grainy candlelight shots and hope they just finish the series, but i'm sure it will eventually go blu.
