Default It comes down to Nolan

Quote:
While the internet is going crazy with casting rumors that aren't true for Christopher Nolan's possible third Batman movie, the director himself is on vacation as The Dark Knight approaches $500 million domestically.

The Hollywood Reporter has published an interesting article about the film's marketing and the deaths of both Heath Ledger and Conway Wickliffe before the film's release. The piece ends with an interesting bit on the third installment.

And Warners and Legendary are both interested in doing a third in the series, but all involved say it will be up to Nolan to come to them with a story and a plan.

"There are a lot of us who emotionally would love to do it," Roven says. "But it's really Chris' call. Chris is the kind of filmmaker who just doesn't think about the next movie before he has completely finished the movie he is working on."

For now, Nolan is taking a well-earned vacation.

Says Roven, "When he comes back, we will see how he feels."

We will be waiting patiently...

I wouldn't be suprised too much if he decided not to do it. Don't get me wrong, I think most likely he will and I absolutely want him to do it but... you never know.

After I saw the film I decided that even though I thought it was great, I'll think of it better after seeing the third one.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he decided not to do it.
Believe it or not, there are some people who really do prefer to quit when they're ahead. He has a movie that he's really happy with, and that was very well received by the public. In making a third, there is tremendous pressure: you have to make it at least as good, if not better, or everyone will be so disappointed that it will diminish the impact of the previous movie. In the end, he may decide that it is too much to risk; and also, if he doesn't do it, the studio doesn't want to do it without him. I hope he feels up to it.

What I really hope, or rather, wish for, is for real information like this to throw cold water on all the totally stupid casting rumors for a movie that hasn't even hit the drawing board.

id imagine Nolan would have first refusal but if he doesnt want to do another i'm sure the studio would push ahead with a sequel... its just to much money for them to pass up on.. i really hope if there is another it doesnt go downhill the same way spiderman 3 did.. i really enjoyed spiderman 2 only to be let down by 3 in a big way...

he's said before that he always saw this as a trilogy...

so I expect a 3rd movie....but a 4th movie would be the bonus....

so I wouldn't worry about there not being a 3rd....especially with how well TDK did...

i would hope that w/the way the dark knight ended that he had an idea in mind for a 3rd one.

obviously not the entire thing planned out but a general direction of where it's gonna go and hopefully w/some new characters in mind (harley quinn!!??)

Just a rumor, but I heard Roman Ragazzi was going to play a villain of some sort in an upcoming Batman, and in fact Nolan would be directing

A new villian called "Pack-man". You do not want to turn your back on him.

if nolan's worth anything, he's got an idea mapped out. not the whole thing, but at least a general idea of what is going to happen. with these types of movies you tend to have that. comic book storyline are usually mapped out well in advance and everything is laid out so that it all leads up to some event, conclusion, or something like that. all good writing does that.

Yeah this has been brought up in the Catwoman thread.

Batman 3: Fanboys Wetdream won't be even in discussion from another year and a half. It won't start film for another year. It won't be released for three.

Move on.

Regardless of any rumors, this franchise means way too much money for them not to make a third one. Financially speaking they must make a third one. Artistically speaking I hope they don't botch just cause it's bound to make money anyways

+1 The series is making a lot of money and doing well. If a third one is made they need to make sure they put as much time and effort and quality into it as the first two. I do not want to see a "Spiderman 3" happen again.
