Cool BD movies you only watch around the holidays.

This strikes me as an odd practice because the purpose of owning the movie is you watch it any time you wish. But I am one of those people who buys the movie, watches it once, MAYBE TWICE, and it sits on my shelf almost indefinately.

However, I am realizing I am cheating myself of the pleasure of why I bought blu-ray if I don't utilize my player. So, I'm thinking of a schedule of movies to re-watch around the holidays. I pick movies more iconic of the holiday.

4th of July:
* Cars (Almost anything Pixar)

Halloween:
* The Corpse Bride
* Monster House

Thanksgiving:
* The Nightmare Before Christmas
* Wall-e (When it comes out.)

Christmas:
* A Christmas Story
* The (bi-)Polar Express (Blu-ray version is crap due to 15GB HD-DVD port.)
* HD Fireplace (Because my TV will be near my tree.)

New Years:
* 2001: A Space Oddysey.
* Blade Runner

What about you?

The only time I really get into watching certain movies is Christmas. And every Christmas, we watch the following:

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (BD)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (BD)
Love Actually (DVD)
Scrooged (DVD)
It's a Wonderful Life (DVD)
Die Hard (BD)

Also, thanks for posting this, because I'm realizing how many catalog titles I still have to look forward to in the future!

For Christmas, there's always:

Christmas Story
Christmas Vacation
Die Hard
The Polar Express (can't wait to see this in 3D)

I know I am forgetting some but yeah...

For the 4th, we usually watch some giant loud action blockbuster/disaster movie.

How has no one mentioned Groundhog day?!?!?! I watch that movie every groundhog day. I really hope that comes out on Blu in early 2009.

Don't own many holiday Blu-rays yet though. Been saving Monster House for closer to Halloween. Been hoping for a Santa Clause Trilogy (which I would only watch at Christmas - already only watch the first 2 DVDs at christmas).

I started running a 1 Simpson Treehouse of Horror a night marathon leading up to Halloween recently too. That's the only time I watch those episodes.

Here are a few more things I only watch around their designated holidays:

Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
Charlie Brown Christmas
Garfield Christmas
Elf
Mickey's Christmas Carol
Jingle All the Way

Waiting for someone to say Independence Day for 4th of July

Christmas is the only holiday where I do that. So far, for blu-ray it has just been The Polar Express.

On DVD, It's a Wonderful Life and sometimes Miracle on 34th Street (although that one may be on VHS). Last Christmas, my parents bought me the set of DVDs that have Frosty, Rudolph, etc. Basically, all the ones I grew up watching. Maybe this Christmas I'll watch some of those. To be honest though, part of the fun was trying to catch them on TV so I'm not sure how it'll be having them readily available.
