So, I picked up Spore tonight at Best Buy, but now I'm not too sure about opening the box. I read the 2,100 reviews on amazon.com about the games over simplicity (it can be beat in 2 hours) and DRM that only allows you 3 installs. Has anyone here actually played the game? Is it worth $50?

I have played until level 3 and nothing since. I'll probably pick it up later I don't know. The first level, the cell level is the only one funny for me but the next levels are much more like character and places management and other games such as Sims do those probably better.

As for the DRM thing everyone says it is a real pain in the back. If I may give you an advice and if you have Kaspersky installed, it will upon installing the game, detect two processes that try to mess with your computer, don't worry it's not really a virus but comes close. It's in fact the protection system of the game and you are advised when Kaspersky tells you, to block those two processes. It will keep your computer fine and the game itself will work fine too.

i find it fun cell is the best to me they shoud have done more with it
only thing i have not done is the "end game" aka space
have 5 games up to space just tinkering with the setings

I got for my iPhone. It's probably different on the PC but $50 is a lot for spore.

How is it on the iPhone? it seemed watered down.

I wouldn't know the difference between the two but I have only touched it maybe 3 times since i downloaded it. IMO I am glad i didn't pay $10 for it. It is good to kill time if you are standing in line for something i guess. The graphics for it only being on the iPhone are pretty good though. EA can do better, especially when they have Need for Speed Undercover coming for the iPhone in November I believe.

the cell copy is less then 1/6 of the full game

This game sounded cool initially, but it is getting ripped apart in reviews. I had planned to buy it, but not now, not the way people are talking about it.
