Because Hollywood has so romanticized the lifestyle of a pirate, it is simply for fun. Everyone, deep in their hearts, wants to live the swashbuckling life of a Hollywood pirate. It's probably similar to romanticizing the life of Billy the Kid (like in Young Guns, one of the funniest and best movies ever).
