It played on my PS3 fine on saturday.
I think the problem is with a couple of players, including the Sony BDP-300? Its definitely not with all players. Wouldn't worry about your copy at all. Yours is fine and works for you, and if you ever upgrade to a standalone player in the future I would imagine it will work on that too. |

Many copies of “Iron Man” that have showed up early, have what is believed to be two basic problems. The very first problem concerns the Blu-ray (stand alone) player being used. Many 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation players simply won’t boot up or begin playback on the “feature Film” disc, while most of these players will handle the Supplement (2nd) Disc in the package with no difficulty. Paramount has stated that there is an authoring problem that was discovered after the main shipment was sent out to most of the major retailers. Of all the players out there that can handle the disc, besides the PS3, so far, the new Pioneer’s and the Sony S350 are reported to be doing fine.
There are now questions circulating all over the web, about just what is the main problem, since the second revelation about something strange concerns the audio section on the feature film disc. On the menu of the feature film disc, there is absolutely no switching between Dolby TrueHD and standard Dolby 5.1. While this isn’t something to be so concerned about, there are reports that when a switch is made for the 5.1 sound track of “Iron Man” to be played over a 7.1 system, that will obviously mix the back surround sound speakers with sound, there is a discrepancy in the overall sound level going flat and losing a bit of dynamic range! I myself made this test with a copy of the film and found this to be the case with at least two different 7.1 receivers. Whether or not it’s a matter of one’s processor or receiver is sparking a bit of debate. But perhaps the main concern is that this situation is strange to many Blu-ray fans, since so far, this hasn’t showed up using other Blu-rays. The loss of dynamic range when switching between 5.1 to 7.1 will only be perplexing to those who like using their sound system to some full capacity. Yet, there is a very striking issue surrounding this “Iron Man” sound track debate, because when switched to the full direct use of the bit-stream, only being able to utilize 5.1, the sound is spectacular! So, the big question is whether or not this so called “audio mystery” is part of the problem? Who can say? ![]() Last edited by Blu-RayLover; 09-26-2008 at 02:58 PM. Reason: Misspelling |
