Hey all, I'm looking to connect my light switches in wall, to some type of IR system so that my universal remote can control the lights for my home theater (my living room). Looking for suggestions on a good brand/easy installation for this. Also, I may install a new lamp that is connected via outlet ( not wired in wall). Any input would be great, as this is a new concept for me.

If the lights are built in you can use this simple, inexpensive solution: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...ctId=100399015 If not Lutron makes a lamp dimmer too: http://www.lutron.com/lampdimmers/de...=18000&t=17200 |

Thanks for the Home Depot link!
One of those in-wall dimmers is gonna be in my HT setup, before the end of the day tomorrow! Excellent look, and cool that it can be programmed to use an existing IR remote! I'll post a review once its installed. ![]() |

Harmony 1000 saw it fine and works just fine. If you have regular filament bulbs it is fine. If you use the spiral flourescent lights then you will need to get ones that are dimmer capable. In addition mine controls a chandelier that has 5 lights on it. With all 5 flourescent lights, they dimmer would hum.So i had to take 1 light out and put a regular bulb in to fix that humming issue. Also some of the lower dimmer settings don't produce enough voltage, so the starter in the flourescent lights fire, but doesn't ignite the gases. So the bulbs don't come on, and you get the starter flashing which cause a flashing strobe affect. Kind of neat, and some people i have shown get a kick out of it. But if you turn the dimmer setting up a little higher then it is fine and the light will light up normally. |

I installed the Lutron IR switch in my HT today. If works VERY well. I was able to transfer the control into my HT remote control in no-time.
The one very cool feature is the "favorite" setting, that lets you program an in-between brightness setting. I call this the "pee break" feature, so that in the middle of a long movie, you can raise the lights a bit, without blinding yourselves. Highly recommended. ![]() |
