Default Great Marketing Idea

This idea should go to the insiders that are out there. This idea came from a friend of mine.

Release Spiderman 3 on BD the same day as the theatrical release. Keep the DVD release window the same. Basically no revenue is lost then. This would be a fantastic Blu-Ray seller but yet the # of BDs sold would probably not be enough to piss of theaters.

Won't happen, but what do you think of the idea?

This would never happen as it would take away revenue from the theaters, as well as giving bootleggers a copy of the movie earlier than usual.

Good idea nonetheless. I still think the studios should toy with having a BD release a week or two before the DVD, to build BD awareness.

Would be neat. It would be possible to release Spiderman 3 on BLU-RAY and then delay the DVD release 30 days. For select hit movies Sony studios should experiment with delayed 30 day DVD windows. It would be a selling advantage to have some BLU-RAY new releases come out 30 days before DVD releases. On some hit titles several thousands of BLU-RAY players would be purchased just for people to see some titles 30 days early.

I agree with both of your BD before DVD notions, it would definately raise awareness.

No. I am against this idea and the idea of release 2 week or 30 days window before DVD verison release.
Blu-ray is small market, DVD is larger market but Blu-ray market is growing as DVD was in early day. In 5 years, Blu-ray will become larger market as DVD are today.
So, it will be staled to release same day as dvd release window.

Magnolia Pictures have done this on several of its movies. Simultaneous release on DVD and BD, and theatrical. But a big studio with prime property? Unlikely.

How about releasing the BD movie to me only, 2 months before theater release? Thats a great marketing strategy. I'll be happy and everyone else will be pissed-off, but who cares?
