Default PS3 audio output question...

Hi all,

I just hooked up my PS3 and am using an HDMI cable directly into my Panasonic LCD. What could I change the sound settings to for more output? Would Linear 7.1 ch.44.1 kHz be too much? I do not have nor do I plan to get a receiver.

Thanks!

I wouldn't go that high, find out what your TV supports.

so... you think your TV can output 8 channels of audio to imaginary speakers/subwoofer?

if you've only got the hdmi going into your TV, you get stereo. no more.

if you somehow manage to force 7.1 (which you can't) out of your PS3 you won't hear any dialogue in any videos, or video games, as 97% of the dialogue goes through the center channel, which your TV (most certainly) DOES NOT HAVE.

actually that kinda sounds like fun to try out. lol.

pushing 7.1 audio out straight into a TV is... almost comical.

get a receiver(and speakers) or stick to stereo. stereo is still practical these days.

While you lose out on some of the effects of hearing stuff behind you, a good set of headphones can sound pretty good for games and movies. With some games, I actually feel more like I'm in the game with headphones. It's a more intimate experience, blocks out a lot of unwanted noise, etc.

yes and no, headphones do not give you location of your enemies especially in shooters, where as 5.1 you hear the direction of the bullets...

But if you have a wife/parent whining about the sound level headphones rule
